After much trial and error I put back the stock #7 pickups in my PRS and the thing works fine. I'm looking for another bridge just to try things out.

Previously my guitar had a BKP Warpig and a Polymath and both didn't drive enough treble frequencies. It sounded like a blanket was thrown over the bridge pickup the whole time.. I hated it. Unplugged the guitar rings out loud and is quite balanced. Much brighter than my Les Paul Custom acoustically, so its the pickups that are darkening up the tone.

Its really a JB vs Super Distortion decision as I heard the Suhr is a clone of the JB. Judging from this clip the Aldrich has a more balanced EQ and more treble to cut through. I keep hearing the JB is a very shrill pickup but these YouTube clips seem to claim otherwise. I can't say for sure since I never had one but to me JBs are all mids and the bass and treble is rolled off. I will opt for a Aldrich first just to play it safe in case the Duncan JB is too dark in my guitar.

So.. Super Distortion VS JB in a balanced yet warm PRS singlecut. Go

When it comes to pups, I can't tell anything from clips. I need to play the guitar through my rig to know.

Knowing that guitar though, if the pots are 500K I'd probably go ceramic so in this case of those two choices between the JB and SD, start with the SD. I love the JB, one of my all time favs but I have never liked them in my Tremonti's or my Les Pauls. Why not just track down a 250 bridge pup and give that a try?

JB if it’s a JB-J. The new JB’s are not the same.
Never played a suhr. Heard it on vids. Sounds good.
250 bridge is supposed to be pretty hot.
Or a PRS metal pickup.

I had an Aldrich in my SC250 and it sounded great
If you like the JB try a ToneNerd Sunset Strip

Did anyone try a JB and find it was a tad dark?

Yes. Not a fan. Go Duncan Distortion, can’t go wrong.
Already got a BKP Painkiller in my Les Paul Custom. The initial plan was to keep the PRS with PAFs but I want to try a classic hot pup like JBs and Super Distortions.

This right here!!! Support a rig-talker! I have a JB in my Charvel and a Tone Nerd in my Les Paul and I can swap guitars and be in that same familiar tone world.

A Super Distortion for me is a one trick pony. I love it for that hard rock middy KISS, Boston, Cheap Trick type thing but just sits on a certain tone spot in my opinion and hard to get it to do other things.

My Tone Nerd is a Whiskey but for your needs Scott may think another model would be a better fit.

I have a thread with a video of the jb and the painkiller i compared the other day. The jb more than holds its own, and doesnt sound dark to me.

Aldrich is pretty fat.
SSH+ a bit less so, but still has big lows. Dig it in my Suhr Modern.
Tonenerd Sunset, Roxy or Wicked 8 have better articulation and response than a JB.
Super Distortion is OK, not my fav. Most ceramics aren't. Compressed. @scottosan made a ceramic for his Kramer that is more open and responsive, with killer top end bite when you dig in. His Whiskey pup kills in everything so far.

WCR Godwood is like a hot PAF, really good.

The Aldrich isn't really a clone. It's a tweak on the SSH+ which is already a tweak on the JB itself that Doug Aldrich wanted. Doug Aldrich was playing JB's at some point. It does have JB heritage, but it's not a clone. And no, it's definitely not got more treble to cut through. If anything, it's fatter and darker.

I wasnt a big fan of the aldrich. It wasn't bad just just light in the mids more like a custom. Eq-wise, I definitely like more mids than bass in a pickup.

Bro, trust me….you want to put a PRS \m/ in there. It’s like a perfected JB/Aldrich but scorching hot and more dynamic! I have an extra one lying around (it’s uncovered but not square bobbin bc I pulled the cover off of it a while back)

I always like small winders, will he be able to slightly tweal his pups to my needs? All I need is more treble.

Speaking of which is the Duncan JB actually the versatile hot humbucker Duncan says it is? I mainly play hard rock and a bit of metal (Mastodon, Alice In Chains, TOOL) and I liked how the JB sounded. I like to dial in a crunchy sound with my Soldano plugin, its not that gained up.

Yeah the painkillers have that roar in the mids. Aldrich is more polite
