The reason I'm asking is because I'm picking up a Lonestar strat tomorrow and it has one in it. i'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I have a JB laying around that I might throw in it if I don't like the PG

It's not a bad pickup at all. My little brother has a Lonestar strat and it sounds very good in there. I haven't checked, but I think the pots are 250K like most strats, which would explain why the pickup is somewhat dark. I bet it would sound great with a 500k pot.

It's not a bad pickup at all. My little brother has a Lonestar strat and it sounds very good in there. I haven't checked, but I think the pots are 250K like most strats, which would explain why the pickup is somewhat dark. I bet it would sound great with a 500k pot.

Honestly, I'm very impressed with that guitar overall. I don't know if it's THAT particular one, or they're all like that, but they're really terrific guitars.

I might be wrong but I think the strats that come with the Pearly Gates come with the Pearly Gates plus which is a different pickup than the Pearly Gates that SD sells on it's standard line.

Yeah, the "plus" has an A5 mag instead of the stock A2 on the regular Pearly Gates. I don't think the uneven coils wind benefited from the extra brightness.

i like the pg...not as toothy as the JB but more dynamic and paf like. still has the telltale duncan low mid thickness but more clear twang.
not as fond of the plus...too aggressive/less controllable with your fingers dynamically compared to the original.
