I have a stock BB3 in the bridge of a LP Trad Pro. Has worked for me going on close to 10 years I guess now. Looking for something a bit hotter and since I have always liked the JB in a few Charvel's that I have had, the RTM looks good on paper for a LP.

Any thoughts?

Will most likely rip out all the stock wiring and go with a RS Guitarworks kit as well. Maybe the JP kit. No matter what pickup I go with, will need to find a local guy to install the kit and pickup. That is the next decision that I need to investigate.

I have an RTM in a Kiesel and love it. Not sure how you are going to like it going from a BB3 though. They couldn't be more different. Just my 2 cents, but for a Lester and someone who was using a bb3 I would suggest a BK rebel yell or a motor city hot head

Point taken. Kind of looking for something different than the BB3 though.

May I recommend a DiMarzio Norton?
It's quite in the same vein as the JB, but without the sometimes flubby lows/low-mids.
It's tight, harmonics scream and has medium/high output. Perhaps a tad less hot than a JB.
Oh, and it coilsplits beautifully. Convincing Tele-like tones from a Les Paul.

I understand and the 2 I listed are quite different from the BB3.

I have Rebel Yells in one Lester.
And Crawlers in another.

I have yet to drop a Demartini in one yet.
Its prefect in the Frenchie and can almost hear in in a Les Paul.

Thanks. And this is the second mention of the Rebel Yell. Hmmm. Should be pulling the trigger on the pickup and wiring harness this weekend. Still have some research ahead to base my best guess on.

Now to find someone to do the work locally. I would do a poor job and this is my #1!

Norton is quite the "sleeper" in the DMZ lineup.
I love it in certain guitars like a LP. it is right between a Tone zone and a Fred in tone and output.
It has the crazy harmonics of the Fred with the punch of a TZ.
I have even used it in the neck with really good results.

Yep; I also put a Norton in my Charvel So-Cal Pro Mod. I found the stock TZ in that guitar a hint too flubby on the lows; so I tried a Super D, Duncan D (ultimate thrash machine in that guitar, but too tight and hot for the more hardrock/heavy metal I wanted to play with it) and settled on the Norton.
I did upgrade the Floyd block to a FU Big Brass Block though. Bit more body and sustain.

500t is a sleeper that I love in a LP.

Personally I would get 500k pots and PIO caps when you rewire it and do it 50's style. You get a lot more mileage IMO.

After some more reading I think that I will swap the pickup first, and then decide on the wiring after spending some time with it.

Sticking to the RTM or maybe just a stock JB. I have liked the Dimarzio's that I have had in Ibby's but want to stick with Duncan's in the LP. Thanks for the replies.

Stock JB purchased. Should have it on Wednesday. Used a coupon code so was able to get one brand new in black/creme for $63. Will play around with it for a few weeks before I make any wiring moves.

Need to start watching some vids on swapping pickups now. Have not soldered anything in over 15 years!

Big difference between Dimarzio and Duncan when soldering:
Duncan: black wire = signal. White+red for coil tap, green+bare=ground.
DiMarzio: red wire = signal. White+black for coil tap, green+bare=ground.

Thanks for the heads up. Swapping a Gibson pickup out but will make sure to follow Duncan's wiring and not just match what I think the Gibson wiring color is telling me.
