Duncan SH-5 or SH-11 in the bridge of a Les Paul?

JB and Jazz in my LPC. I thinks thats a great set-up personally, but you have that covered.

Old thread, I think he has found his pups by now!! PErsonally the SH-11 was a little too loose on the bottom end for my LP style guitar. Air Zone in there for me. What a cruncher!

I have the Custom-Custom in the bridge of a LP analog, and I think it's very nice. A bit reserved compared to the JB (I don't have a Custom), but offers a lot of similar characteristics. I have a Jazz at the neck, which I'm not especially fond of.

I almost always go SH-4 (JB) in the bridge of an LP and a Jazz in the neck. So I guess if I were you I would go with the SH-5.

If you're not going to do metal the duncan custom is awesome in a les paul for rock.

if you think the custom sounds thin then a 300k vol/tone pot setup will warm it up.

;)

I tried a bunch of Duncans in my R8 before going back to the 57 Classic pickups. They just sound right to me compared to the Duncan higher output pickups. They have Alnico II magnets, so they are probably similar to the Duncan Alnico Pro II's that Slash loves.

This.

BTW, I went with JB/Jazz in two of my LP Customs and a Distortion in the bridge of the other. I am preferring the JBs.

I realize this is old and you made a decision but give the Custom Custom (TB-11) a try someday. I don't use LPs but it works great in my mahogany/maple Schecter. I also tried it in my Strat with great success. Like Shawn and Rupe were saying - I think it tames any treble shrill and gives you a nice thick tone. I use a '59 in the neck.

Also, know this tidbit. If you buy a pup new and don't like it necessarily right away or want to try something else give their Customer Support 800 a call and they will actually PRE SHIP you a different pup and you send back the original once you get the new one.

Awesome customer service

question for you, in my les paul neck positions, i almost always have defaulted to the alnico 2 pro (not the "slash" one)

but i always wanted a little less boom/mud in the lows (which is why i back the bass side down almost level with the pickup ring), and a slight bit more bite in the uppers.

recently, i put an dimarzio evolution neck (the original one) and backed it down far, and it almost has what i need, but i can definitely tell it's ceramic mag...it has that ....laser sound...for lack of a better term.

tell me about the jazz neck pickup....i want clearer lows, than the alnico 2, basically the same honky mids and upper mids, maybe even a tad more bite on the upper end for some more clarity and cut.....will the jazz get me there?

I always thought the jb sounded better in thicker gibson guitars, it sounds really juicy and matches a tuneomatic bridge well.

The sh5 is my favourite pickup, but ive only ever heard it in floating bridge super strat guitars, where it does a great job making them sound a bit fuller.

Hmmm...for a les paul....dunno...dont discount the jb...

I know it's an old post...
Definitely the SH-11, 'Custom Custom'.
I the prefer A2.
CooL.
