So I am back on a wah kick and while I really like my mini cry baby, I want to be able to control the lows a bit more. I have a xotic "flagship" wah and honestly, I don't like it. It isn't doing what I want despite the switches on it and mini pots. . I also have the cry baby junior, but the sweep is not as good as the mini believe it or not from a feel pespective. What I am hoping is that i can set the 535Q to give me LESS lows but also to roll the tone or quack off the toe down position. Is this doable between the 6 settings? I have listened to demos and i think the 6 choices give me the heel response or tone i want but i am not sure if the Q then alters both the heel and toe or if it can be used to roll off the toe down quack?

I really like the sound of that Mick Ronson wah but think the price is a bit ridiculous for what it is... hoping the 535Q allows me to dial my sweep in similarly. I know it won't be exactly the same but what I am after is controlling the quack and shortening the bass range. I like to do the slow sweep in a narrow spot like Schenker did. I find i can get it almost to where i like it but then i always have to be careful stepping off it and i nudge it too far back. First world problems I know.. i think if it can't do what I want, I may need to just get my hands in an old cheapo wah and use a few resistors to soften the highs and play with the treddle to have less range. I have even heard of guys putting a stopper under the heel as well, that might be an an option.

Can't speak to the Mick Ronson sweep or tone but I didn't care for the Q either :dunno:

And I kept it for a good 6 months - thinking something was going to change.

I've had a few and I'm not making a recommendation to you Kapo but I landed on the Cry Baby Slash Wah. The tone and sweep are perfect for my humble needs.

All good, this is the feedback I want to hear. I haven't looked at that one but Slash has a good ear for tone so that might be an interesting one too. I swear the marketing is strong with wahs.. probably 4 parts difference between a lot of these and a diff sweep pot...the rest is paint job. I wish Schenker would come out with a custom wah. Black and White, done!

I have a modded 535q. I added the toe down trimmer like dime or cantrell. It was missing the 6 way range selector so I put 3 of my own cap values on a switch. The Q dials in how strong the wah effect is. It works through out the sweep and is more noticeable at the heal down position.

I had a stock 535q and a dime, they sound about the same. You may as well try a dime as it has the most features stock.

I bought one new back in the '90s and have only used it once. It was actually for a semi-clean lead I recorded and it sounded fantastic. So-smooov.

Thing's still in brand-new condition obviously.

Have you considered using a Cry Baby Q Zone ?

No, as I still like to rock it slightly forward and back like Schenker did on the early MSG stuff. You push it just a little for more treble on those high up runs and then back it back. Love that sound. So i do need it to be responsive. Now that said, I got one of the newer DIME Wahs ( no ugly camo, it is the newer version with very subtle camo) and so far it is pretty close to what I wanted or hear in my head with a lot of tweakability. 230$ CAD on blowout. Guess it wasn't that popular so was 100$ off. Works for me. At some point I may just drop the cash on the Ronson wah though. That thing sounds perfect for what I want. Way less heel down bass tones on that thing which I don't really use as I am not a Kirk wacka wacka guy. The Dime does do that tone really well though.

Ironically I bought a Cry Baby from Hell Saturday. I had one about 2007. This is one of the black ones.

You should be able to ballpark the Ronson. My guess would be 3 or 4 on the range. Boost Off or low. Q below noon. Fine tune also below noon.
I doubt it would sound the same. Different inductor, etc. But similar in range and sweep characteristics.

I like it. Sounds good for the heavy stuff.

I don't need it exact, just need the shorter sweep and more of the highs/mids, less lows. But that said, it does a pretty awesome quack quack too. Liking it so far. Also like that it isn't green and yellow! That was a good move on their part to black it out.
