Dunlop straplocks failed on me twice in two days

Thank the gods that I had a firm grip on my #1 LP both times that it happened. I also have Dunlops on my SoCal but have not had any issues. I have Schallers on my #2 LP and will be making a trip to GC tomorrow to pick up another set for my #1.

I have Schallers on all my guitars never had one fail.

The nice thing about the Schallers is that, if the locking mechanism fails (none of mine ever have) theres still something holding the strap on to your guitar!
The Dunlops are well made and sturdy, but they rely on the locking mechanism alone to attach to the guitar, and if that fails, you're done! (unless you have ninja-grip like fek!)

What exact type of dunlop strap locks do you have, I think they have a few different versions? Curious what exactly failed. I have the dunlop dual design on one LP, the rest of my guitars have schallers.

Yeah, I use Shallers too. Much better system in my opinion.

I've never had a Dunlop fail in 17 years.

BTW, the Schaller fails if one little nut unscrews. no thanks. :aww:

I use lock washers between the nut and the "strap washer" it takes some effort to make those come loose even with a wrench or a socket if you tighten them enough.

Loc-tite. I have Schallers on all of my guitars, never had a problem.

I used to use Dunlops and I had one fail on one of my LP's too only I didn't have a firm grip on it. Worse yet it was on a concrete floor. Luckily the headstock didn't crack or stap off. It took a gouche out of the back of the body and bent a tuning peg. I got lucky. I changed to Schaller's on all my guitars after that. Never had a problem since. I wish there was a way to sue Dunlop!

I've been using Dunlops for about 30 years and I've never had one fail. The only time one ever came off was user error as I had not snapped the strap portion all the way in.

Dunlops =FAIL ...they always have. The design sucks. I used to think they were cool when I was younger until I saw countless sets fail, mine and my friends. The whole time I also owned Schaller and Dimarzio Cliplok as well...never had a problem with either. I know people trust Dunlop, but I know people that trust 20yr old straps without any locks either.

I've always been leery of the design. I haven't had any troubles yet with mine, but may switch to schallers soon.

My first thought was user error even though I have had the strap attached for a couple months with no problems. I spent time making sure that it was attached properly the second time.

THIS ^^
30+ years and counting with no failures.
Is it just me, or do all the MX guys use loc-tite?

Another vote for Schallers. Along with the faulty design of the Dunlops, I just think they're plain ugly.

Another Schaller user here converted by a Dunlop fail experience. The Schaller is simply a superior design IMO. I think Dunlops would probably be fine for home use or even live for someone who isn't too animated.
I also had a cliplock strap fail back in '88 when I tried the over-the-shoulder-spin move but I still use them on a few guitars and haven't had an incident since that one.

I def had to catch my LP with a Schaller on it, the little receiver part had flipped over and that dude will come right out of there when that happens, I guess the nut had loosened up a little,,you guys use Loctite on that?,,Anyone use Ernie Ball Super Locks???

Schaller Locks:

Guitar: run the screw all the way in so you know it wont get bottomed out half way in. Pull it back out and drop a few dots of super glue on the screw, run it all in, that sucker'll wear out first b4 drop out of the guitar. Strap: Once you get the strap end all put 2gether, another drop or 2 around the nut/threads keeps it from backing out, lok that biatch down an with this setup you'll be able to swing your guitar around your neck like your favorite 80's metal cac
:D
