i think they are awesome feeling, sound good, seem more solid, i use a 1 and a 1.4. anyone else use them?

I've been using the regular ultex in 1mm and I really like it. Got a pack of .94mm Black Fangs waiting in my "stocking" for Christmas... as far as I know they are no different than the ultex sharps, just black with a spider head graphic on them.

I like the contoured yet sharp tip on them... I don't usually like sharps. Played around with the free one that came with my EMG Het Set and told my wife I wanted a pack of them. ;)

I've been using the Sharp 1.0's for the past few years, and they've been one of my all-time favorites (have over a gross of them "just in case"). However, they wear pretty quickly on me, and I end up keeping a nail buffer nearby to polish the edges every couple days or so. Certainly nowhere near as bad as the old Fender Celluloids, which I could shred in one extended solo. The Sharp is the same shape as some Pickboys I used to be able to get in the 90's (checkerboards) that have been discontinued for a long, long time. For all-around playing, I don't think anything I've had beats them.

That said, in the past month I've bought a couple other types of picks, notably the Dunlop Petrucci signature pick (supposedly an Ultex 1.5 thickness, partway between the Jazz size and the Sharp size) and the Ultex Jazz III. I was a Jazz size user for about 15 years, so the Ultex Jazz has taken over the top spot for me. It's a little cleaner on single note lines, but it does take some finesse if you're hammering out a rhythm. With the Jazz shape, I've opened up my right hand index finger a couple times when I got too aggressive.

I love the Ultex material. Great picks.

Wasn't that long ago I was a complete Ultex Sharp fanboi.

Things have changed immensely since then :D

Ive been using the ultex sharps since they've been introduced. I wish they did last a little longer for their price. I get probably 3 hours of use out of 1 pick. I might check out the tortex T3 sharp picks. Which are the same shape.

These have gone back into production at least 4 years ago. You can buy them here. I was using the metacarbon pickboys until the ultex came out.

Yup -- all the way to the top... 2.0mm for most stuff. Ultex Jazz III's for specific songs.

I used regular Jazz III's for years and just tried the ultrex. I dig'em a lot.

Merry Christmas Race!

Send me your shipping addy and I will send you a bag of 2.0mm Ultex (72 picks) sometime next week...I have moved down to the .90 version

Been using the sharps since they came out. Went down in size tho, from the 1.5's to the 1.14's... Can't gel with anything else for some reason. Probably just too many years

I love my .90's! giant grab bag of picks from NAMM last year, these are now my go to!

I used .88 grey dunlop nylons for 20 years... They feel like a wet potato chip now!

Not the same, unfortunately. The checkerboard pick in this picture is the one I'm talking about. I saw one web site years ago that said it was PVC. The black is solid, but the white sections are a translucent pearl. I've seen shop inventories in Japan that have them, but I've yet to get a response when I email the company.

I've got two local Pickboy dealers here, and I hit them up about once a month hoping that they've got these again. The Pickboy picks are not bad, but they're no longer like the checkerboards, and I prefer the Ultex.

I think I'm down to my last 3 or 4 of them.

I've been in love with these pickboys lately:

I was a big Jazz III user for awhile but they always sounded kinda "clippy" and like plastic on big chords and not great on clean stuff, like they couldn't dig in enough. So then I'd switch to a Tortex to grab more string but then I'd miss the Jazz III's smaller size. The pickboy is the best of both. Perfect for shred and more accurate stuff, smooth enough for teh sweepz and sounds good on fat chords and digs in just enough.

Used the Ultex IIIs for a bit and they're sweet for the glassy precise tone, but I never dug the sharps as much. Too crispy and razory.

Also a big fan of the Gravity picks but the Pickboy is currently my favorite all-arounder.

I stumbled upon Ultex pics when they first came out and loved them. I eventually fell into the Jazz III size and have been using variations of those for a few years now.

Just received the Petrucci Jazz III pics and I am in honeymoon love with them. $3.49 for 6 and they seem to wear very well. Time will tell.

I do dig the Ultex Sharps, but I personally love the feel and attack of Tortex better, so I now am a dedicated T3 sharp (yellow, .73) guy after using the standard shape forever.

If I remember correctly, Ventura, you were using the .73's. I was too. I've been using the Jazz III Tortex lately though.

Absolutely love them. I was a Jazz III XL guy for a long time and was hoping for an Ultex variant of it - the sharps seemed like the next best thing and now I'm hooked.

They do wear out quickly though, only gripe. But hell picks are cheap.

I'm using the ultex jazz 3 best feeling pick got em on a whim cause they were like 2.69 a six pack very easy to use!!

Just got into the Ultex Sharps recently. My new favorite.

i love 'em. started used them about a year ago, in those same gauges. for me, they're the only sharp full-size pick that has the brighter sound of the Fender picks i grew up on. the Jazz ones are too tiny for my meaty paws, and the Tortex sharps sound too flat and dull for me.

i've A/B'd the Ultex Sharps against the Black Fangs. the BFs are a little bit brighter still. i think they are made of some type of the ultex material, but they feel a bit different, more matte than as slick as the Ultex. i think they sound a little bit better. but they cost twice as much.
