Does anyone know, what brand and material/type the red box (lego) caps were, that Marshall used in their JCM800 line in the 80ies?
Thanks

Are you sure about that? I read a lot of contradictory information about this. Some say Wima, others Iskra and so on.
Nope ... not sure .... pretty sure .... but someone above me mentioned Philips MKT .... so .... now I'm really not sure

Most of the red, white, yellow and grey square caps in the master volume amps are Philips MKT series, metalized polyester foil.
Thanks for the information!
The only thing I`ve found so far is, that at one point Iskra caps were used in the JCM800 amps. Have you ever heard of them being used???

I asking cause I could get an 1981 JCM800 2203 which was pretty molested. All caps have been changed as well and I`m thinking of a restoration project so the original caps would be the way to go.

Make sure you try it first before spending cash/time searching for the original components…I say this because 8 yrs ago I bought an 82 2204 for 799, GC in Cali that was so cheap because it had a tube loop mod, and a small gooped gain mod, some changed resistors/caps etc.
But, after plugging in and playing I soon realized it was easily the best MV Marshall I’d ever played. The gain mod was just a touch more gain than stock…but it just killed. I’ll always regret selling it.

Good point!

That seems like a really cool project.

So, it looks like Marshall used both Philips and Iskra square caps which wouldn't be a surprise. Maybe when one was not available they would order the other. Just pulled the chassis on my 1980 JMP 2204 and it clearly has red Iskra caps as the caps have the Iskra logo on them. Here are pictures of a .1uf and a pair of .022uf caps on my board.

I believe the red .022uf caps below are philips as are the yellow caps in the 2nd picture.
