So here is another original 1981 neck I've restored with an '81 Charvel-made Dimarzio body.

I got this neck and the original plate that went with it (#1016) from Germany on eBay.

The neck was an absolute mess - needed new frets, had a Floyd nut shelf, the black painted headstock was a mess with tons of scratches in the clear, multiple sets of tuner screw holes on the back (some filled, some not) and two sets of Floyd string tree screw holes. So, I took it to my friends at OC Guitar Works and they went to work. First, they filled the 4 floyd string tree screw holes and the plethora of tuner holes on the back and then sanded down the headstock and re-shot the clear. The logo is original, they just sanded down the clear and re-applied it. They also found a hump in the fretboard that had to be filed down and then they re-fretted the neck. I provided an Ebanol Floyd replacement nut since I was going vtrem with this guitar and they build a small ebony shelf for it to sit on that is tapered to the headstock and looks pretty slick and plays great. Once the guitar was built, the neck was Plek'd - amazing! The action is perfect and it plays like a dream.

The body I've shown before in a thread where we were discussing one of my other projects. The paint was done by one of Grover's guys - his name is Ernie Pedregon and I'm told he was one of the original Charvel paint guys.

Pickup is a new JB. Vtrem is an original Charvel from the 80s. The bar is from OC Custom Guitars. Black oval jack plate, string tree and strap buttons were made by Dave at Frets On The Net. The control cavity brass plate was cut from some stock that grover had sitting around at his new shop. I had them cut one for my black Star as well!

Still need a control cavity cover and a tremolo spring cover...

Guitar is a great player and sounds really nice. I found an old '80s pink X2N which I may swap the JB for... We'll see...

That looks so badass. That paint job is top shelf. What a sweet axe

Thanks guys! I just had to change out the pot. It was an old Dimarzio pot and it was bad. Put in a frictionless Bourn pot and it's good now...

Man, you are on a Charvel induced roll! Nicely done!

Dead sexy! Just looking at it you can tell that a lot of love has gone into making it nice again. Congrats on a killer axe!

Nice axe Steve, would love to see a group shot of some of your guitars.

Wow, looks like a new guitar you would see in the early 80's! Beautiful neck. So, the neck and plate are from a different body - but your body is from '81? I'm a little slow!

Yes, the '81 neck and plate are from a different body that was destroyed. This body is a Charvel-made Dimarzio strat, also from '81, so it has the correct body contours to the age of the neck.

Holy Carp man. I got a tinge of mini seizure / dizzy when I first looked at the front of the guitar. LOLOL   I shit you not.
