very sophisticated

the upright bass stuff that he did at the end was wild.

gotta have chops to tap like that on a nylon!

From a more rock perspective Steve Hackett from Genesis also did tapping before Eddie, check out a song called "Return of the Giant Hogweed" I believe it's called. 1971 or 72 if I'm not mistaken.

Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Page both were tapping before EVH.

That is the earliest "VH" triplet type tapping I've heard of.

I just read where the EVH lawyers are going after this guy for infringement.
EVH owns tapping.

this guy was way ahead of his time. Great tapping ideas, especially to tap walking bass lines? very cool.
EVH is still the one responsible for making it so popular. He definitely was the first to do it through a crank Marshall, basically sounding like a rock Allan Holdsworth.

For real.....I LOOOOVED this guys video!! But Yes.....EVH brang it to the table....and kept the bar high. No reason to go deeper. ;)
Just make music fun and good ...new...and exciting to play. To me if it sounds good....it IS GOOD!
Rap...Country....shred....death metal......I like all music.
But if its sucking to me...

Forget the tapping. The dudes chording technique is ridiculous.

But yeah, I thought it was a well known fact that there was tapping well before EVH. Ed just turned it into a style unto itself, and very effectively at the time.

I saw Steve Vai talk about the multi-finger tapping he had to create for the intro of "Building The Church"...

Bitch, pleaaaase.

Does Vai know your name? Perhaps he didn't know this guy's either. Vai clearly didn't invent tapping, but perhaps he did have to invent a technique for himself to use for a piece he wrote. In either case, WGAS? I mean, if you never heard a song before and you wrote the same song, you still fucking wrote it. You can't be influenced by something you never saw or heard. Everyone of these heroes in this thread, Vai, EVH, Gibbons, Zappa...etc, all contributed so much in so many different ways. Really, who gives a flying fuck?

Roy Smeck was tapping in the 30's. As well as a bunch of other crazy stuff. Look him up. I'm sure there are many others even earlier.... Its all about making it your "thing"....

Don't worry... It was just an attempt at a witty comment. Take the beans off the stove.

So, Eddie stole tapping from a u tube video ????
He always has his men lurking for someone to tread and violate the EVH trademark.
So I would say yes.

Sorry....I just have a bitter pill with him. Short story....I bought a EXCELLENT Frankenstrat copy guitar off a member here.
Rocked it for a while.....wanted to part with it. Put it on Ebay.....the EVH police came in and sent me threatening emails via Ebay. So I put the guitar for sale here and did a Deal with Brad on it. But man....I was like..."What the fuck??"

This was WAAAAY before he came out with his color striped guitars they are selling now.
I didnt mean to cut into his pocket book. Sorry buddy. :D
Oh well...rant over.

I think you can also hear Hendrix doing some very simple tapping on one of the Winterland versions of Hey Joe intros. A friend of mine who is an Eddy type recognized it instantly.
