So I sold a pedal on ebay for $200. The buyer said he messed up and clicked on echeck instead of instant payment. He also gave me his phone number but I've done all communication with eBay email to have a record. Should I be concerned he is trying to scam me? He has only bought 2 other items and is currently selling his first, a $1,100 guitar. He's been very cooperative and sounds like he wants the pedal but I do not know anything about echecking. Could he cancel the check after I ship the item? Leaving me with no money and no pedal.

Wait for the echeck to clear first before shipping. Usually takes 3 days. I don't think he can cancel the echeck once the process has began, but if he doesn't have the funds he could scam you, I guess.

An echeck is fine, in a few days Paypal will write you to say the funds have cleared and are in your account. Just don't ship until that happens and you're all set.

Thanks guys I've only sold a couple of items online so I get nervous when weird shit happens.

I don't know where you can even click to change it to an e-check, but I have had someone do this to me before. I just waited until the money cleared before I shipped, nothing bad happened.

I paid using paypal before and I guess my credit card went out of date and it automatically did an e-check. I apologized to the guy and he just waited for it to clear. I also have received an e-check...just waited until paypal cleared it, then shipped. Went fine. Good luck.
