It's interesting. I would use the first upstroke on the 5th note, but wouldn't do the two upstrokes on the 8th and 9th note.
Here are the pick strokes I'd use. I had to pick up my guitar to figure it out. D= Down, U= Up. D U D D U D D U D D U D

That's how I would naturally play it too. But it defies the "new string on a downstroke" on the first note of the second four. You have to engineer a string change after a down, which I do by rolling my wrist a tiny bit. You can't really even see it from the front but it allows for a downstroke semi-escape. That's a new-ish thing for me. See the Steve Vai Crossroads lick for a look at that. I still warm up with that lick.
