To me, the '68 seems to have a tad rounder highs and the '73 sounds a bit more bitey/crunchy there.

Without them side by side in the same room the diference is bare to none.

In the room, my 69 vs my 72, the C1998 OT in the 69 has a touch more '3D' or 'richer' tone than my 72 did. Both have their share of OG mustards, bright cap etc. The 69 is a very early Jan/Feb build according to the parts used.
Using a PS2A, the 69 is damn near perfect diming the EQ, high treble vol at 7 while the 72 gets too much gain at those settings.

I ended up modding the 72 since the 69 sounded just a bit better all around. Very close though.

Yup, sounds like Van Halen thru an old Marshall. Both. Sounds good, not sure if I can pick a fav since they sound so close to each other.

Eddy Lenz has a really cool clip of a Mesa Mark III that I dig. He almost gets some Marshally sounds out of it. Must have used an old greenback loaded Marshall cab with it?? He ended up modding that Mark III to IIC+ specs.

I prefer the 68 by a little. My 72 was extra gainy same as Racerxrateds. I'd dial back Volume 1 a bit. Volume 2 dimed even though I was just using input 1 as EVH did as it still has effect on tone and gain.
