I bought this guitar recently from a member on the MyLesPaul forum, he is also and member here. The guitar was shipped USPS, shipped in hardshell case and boxed/packed well. Opened up the case and there it was, my first experience with a broken headstock. The seller and I worked out a deal and I decided to keep the guitar and get it repaired. I had David Collins of Ann Arbor, Michigan repair it. He is very well know in the area and he has a special jig for clamping and putting pressure at the correct spots. I told him I just want it re-glued and minor touch up to keep the cost down as I plan to keep the guitar and as long as it played fine I would be happy. He was very quick and did it for a very resonable price.

Played it at band practice for three hours the other night and stay in tune perfect

Here are some before and after pics....

looks like he did a nice job... was that a solid neck or two piece flamenco style joint?

Man that was a nice repair job Brett! The damage is barely noticable at a quick glance

Nice repair job! The glued joint will now be stronger than the wood around it. I should never break there at the glued joint ever again.

I have to ask, did the seller loosen the strings prior to shipment to take the pressure off of the nut? I suspect it was tuned to pitch when shipped?

If I buy a guitar that needs shipped I demand the seller loosen the strings to take all the pressure off the headstock. I would say for a mahognay headstock it is a must, maple is super strong and you can get away without usually but I still demand it.

The wood is pretty strong and can take some hits but with the added tension of the strings pushes things.

Sorry to see sucha nice guitar in pieces but ya got it fixed right!

Thats a great repair job!

A few years ago I had a Hamer explorer shipped to me from Boston and it arrived with the neck split just before the headstock. Seller (a brick-and-mortar music store!) flaked out on me so I got it repaired on my own dime by a local luthier. Couldn't have worked out better though... it is one of my best sounding axes. And its true that the repair area is so much stronger now... will never give you trouble again.

What matters most is that you like the way it sounds and plays. Sounds like a success story to me... glad you guys worked it out amicably and we all aren't reading a flame-thread instead

How would you say the quality of the Edwards compares to a Gibson ? There's an Edwards Sykes model for sale local to me for 900 obo and I've never played one so I'm not sure about it...would love to hear some opinions from guys that have them or have at least played them.

Glad to see you brought her back to life, man. HNGD!

To answer a few questions

The seller did say he loosen the strings but when I got it they were really loose. HaHa

I really like this Edwards guitar and they use pretty good hardware and electronics.
I would say if you could get it for $800-850 that would be a good deal. My luthier said they use a very large truss rod end that takes up more room and then you have less wood, takes away some of the strength. I really haven't heard of to many Edwards neck breaks though.

I wonder why some manufacturers still do 1 piece angled headstocks...
Does the string even resonate past the nut? I don't think 2 glued pieces should alter the tone negatively

Awesome job. How the hell could that happen if it was in the case and packed well?

My Luthier says necks break more from the inertia and not direct impact.

Michael, please share the name of that store so I NEVER inadvertently do business with them. Thanks.

That is impressive. I had the same thing happen on all things, my 12 string acoustic. Had a guy here in town repair it and it is rock solid.
