How does the Edwards LP-130CD compare to the Epiphone LPC, for a lower cost alternative to the real deal Gibson?

As someone who owns 2 Gibson LP customs, 2 Epi LP Customs, and an Edwards......the Edwards is easily the best playing and most stable guitar of the 3. Like....it kind of pissed me off when I got it because it just feels THAT much better than my Gibson Les Paul customs in the playability dept.

That being said, my black 05 LP custom is probably the best sounding guitar I own. The Edwards sounds great, but it is not a total tone monster like the Gibson. Of course, that's my opinion/personal taste speaking, so take it with a grain of salt.

My Epi LP customs are ok. I have the Matt Heafy and the Silverburst inspired by Gibson models. The Heafy's fretwork is meh. I may have it pleck'd because otherwise, it's a great guitar with awesome features, and stays in tune very well.

The Silverburst is a project guitar. Bought it from GC used, it came with a bunch of sanding marks all over the finish from someone trying to dull the shine, looks like ass, but came with burstbuckers installed which was a big value add. I ended up getting the guitar for $100 after partial refund from GC and selling the BB's. Sweetwater is sponsoring a video for me to restore the guitar and deck it out with new pickups, nut, hardware and wiring harness, so I'm excited to see how it stacks up after the mods.

If you want a true LP clone, with the right carve etc go for a Greco over Edwards. Edwards are nice singlecuts for sure; I’ve had a few and they great. The Grecos however are a step up imo. Both killer though. Can’t go wrong.
The Epi customs that I’ve picked up and played at a GC seemed to fall short to either Edwards or Greco.

I currently own an Epi 1959, and I used to own a newer Custom with the new headstock.

Epis these days are very pretty-looking. They've definitely improved in that department. My 1959 doesn't look like an R9, but it definitely looks prettier than my low-end Gibson, LOL.

But their fretwork and setup right out of the box is attrocious. Like really bad. I've had my 1959 worked on, and it's better, but I still think the nut was cut too low from the factory, and it could use a new one.

Also the tone, while not bad, is nothing to write home about. Part of the issue here is the Locktone stuff they use for the bridge is really bad. You can tell it's not a quality bridge. It's rattle city and the finish wears off super easily, especially on the gold one. I replaced the one in my old Custom with a Graphtech and it was a big improvement tonally. I used Gotoh for my 1959, and I didn't notice as big of an improvement tonally, but at least it doesn't rattle anymore.

So in all honesty, I wouldn't recommend current Epis, personally.

What year is your Edwards?

I've got one of each and they're both great guitars in their own way.

But...

When I bought the Epi, I was initially shopping for an Edwards - either a John Sykes model or a regular Custom to convert. The reason I bought the Epi instead is because I could actually go to a store and try out a bunch to see if any clicked. One did.

Ultimately every guitar is an individual and the guitar picks the player.

The next question is always " which" Grecos because they have various models i think now with some lower cost made jn China options. Or am I thinking of Burny.

If you get one from 1977-1987 you will avoid anything other than MiJ. EG500 or higher are solid, no chambering.
