When I run effects through the serial loop my volume drop dramatically, at least by half. And effects are very quiet in the parallel loop. I changed tubes 4 and 5 but still having problems. I am running a tc g system for effects. I'm going crazy with this any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to adjust your effect's output signal. It has to be totally differently setup than using it with a parallel loop. Reprogram your effect and it'll will sound ok. If you can use the parallel loop, much better in my opinion as you can adjust the wet signal's level.

Thanks, got it figured out. I had a master level set wrong.

When switching to serial the effect unit's output signal usually is way too low and needs adjustment.

Yeah, I've been using a G-System with my Herbert for about 6 years now. The problem is that most amp's serial effects loop is line level while pedals are instrument level... including the G-System. Even with having adjustable in and out levels, which help alot, it can make the amp a little more harsh sounding to my ears.
I'm considering using a line level shifter, like the Ebtech lls-2, in the loop to see if it restores the amp's warmth. It's a bummer when you spend so much $$ on your gear and you still need a $75 box to make it work well together.
