Got my mod 50 and an assortment of mods... I was so excited... hats of to the Michigan boys... Jeff is a class act! Problem I am having is the EG5 mod sounds extremely thin and shrill... played it through a Bogner 4x12 w/ vintage 30's as well as an old Marshall.... I took it to a Boutique amp dealer/friend today and the verdict was the same...when I switched out the EG5 for the SL2... the SL2 sounded fat and full... I would Imagine the EG5 would sound fuller but it hissed and was scratchy.. I am reaching out here guys for some help.... I am wondering if its the tubes in the module... now being that I have 4 mods on hand can I switch out the tubes in my SL2 for the ones in my EG5 or is that not good... meaning they are different in their gain structure.
For the record.... I put the mod50 face to face with my Bogner XTC and it was a very cool run for the money.... I haven't explored enough but the Bogner seems to run around Various hotrodded Marshall gain amps... Where as the Mod50 nails the Brown sound... I have to say I was hoping the EG5 mod would blow away my Soldano SLO 100 but I'm not getting it yet...I think my module is off...so again Help...thanx... and again I know you guys in Detroit are getting ready for NAMM so thanx for the beyond excellent customer/bedside manner.

Try the tubes, and set the treble at about 9 oclock. The EG5 is brutal and NOT thin!

Can I swap out the ones in my Vox mod for the one's in my EG5's?

Sure.I put all kinds of tubes in there, mostly 12AX7s.

Sometimes the tubes just go out.But that would be the first suspect in that EG5.

Yea, since you know the tubes in the SL2 are rockin' put those in there. I'm sure it's a fluke, don't worry, Egnater will get you squared away.

I agree, probably its the tubes. Pop the SL2s tubes in there and give it a go. The EG5 should be anything but thin and shrill!

Man I hate this but thanks to all the egg heads for helping our newest customer with the module of distruction! Most of the time the only failure in our designs are the consistency of the tubes. We have found that the Sovtek 12ax7 WA is the most consistent..but well here is an example of them being not. That is if the WOW was a good WOW as Jason asked.
Glad she arrived to your satisfaction and thanks for the props!

so whats the verdict Jerry .

Can the EG5 compete with your SLO ?

Im not Jerry, but my verdict is yes. I have an SLO that has been sitting around for a year since I got my MOD 50. I never use it.

So EWS
Have you changed your mind then in regards to getting the Lynch, Scorps, Firehouse, Doug Aldrich tone .

Does the EG5 have the upper hand over SL2 .

Im looking at M4 or maybe the E2 pre after Namm and wanted your opinions
you advised that SL2 really had it over the old MHG mod for that tone .
Does EG5 change that opinion ..thanks

He either cannot stop playing ..or EG5 blew him through the wall

Get off the boat Ja...just found out a guy is playing the Conan Obrien show on Weds and is loaded with our Egnater PAF in one of his guitars for the show....Kudos to Wade and his pickups!

Different story with EG5. The MHG and EG5 are voiced pretty differently though they have similar amount of gain, saturation, and definition. EG5 has that high mid bite you need to get the Lynch and Firehouse tones. Id still say SL2 for "Rock You Like a Hurricane", Ratt, and GnR, but EG5 is definitely the closest module to a SLO.
