Here's a test song I recorded w/ a Celestion K100 in my Grendel Dead Room. Mic'ed it w/ 2 SM57s. One on axis directly pointed at the dust cap, and one off axis on the cone. The preamp is my Egnater M4 using the EG5 module for rhythms, and the EG4 module for leads. Power amp is a VHT 2902 w/ Svetlana 6550s. Cab is a Grendel Dead room Iso cab. Guitar is a Yamaha Ty Tabor Signature model tuned to drop C with EMG 81, SA, SLV. Bass is my Warmoth G4 bass w/ EMG PJ pickups ran through a Sansamp for the highs, and LA-610 for the beef :). Drums are Superior Drummer.

Enjoy!!

Very cool riff man, enjoyed that

Was is a LA-610?? I liked the bass tone you got, nice and punchy even down that much.

A LA-610 is a Tube Preamp made by Universal Audio. I did the "Dug Pinnick" approach to recording bass. Use a good tube preamp for your lows, and limit it. Post-processing....Run it through a low-pass filter. I cut everything below 325hz, and EQ'ed to taste. I ran the Sansamp RBI tone through a high-pass filter at about 325hz, and compressed it a bit. That allows the non-distorted tone to be the lows and the "beef" and the RBI to be the top end. I then run both tracks separately through a LA2A compressor, and both tracks separately through a Pultec Pro. I then buss both tracks to one buss and run it through a Pultec Pro and a Multiband compressor to do light EQ and fit the "full bass tone" to the mix.
