Egnater MOD50 -vs- Diezel Einstein

Any bogner 101b users here have experience with these 2 amps?

For someone used to the 101b, which amp is a more comfortable switch?

I tried the Diezel (other thread) which I really dug, but have heard rave things
about the Mod50 from a friend. Also, I'm a tinkerer, and the though of the
modules sounds good.

I tried the Tourmaster (combo), but wasn't 100% crazy about it.
I thought it lacked personality, although it did sound very good (not harsh).
It didn't sound "wet" enough in the EQ department or something, somewhat flat
and generic-y, although a pleasing distortion.

Dude, I haven't tried a Diezel, but if you are a tinkerer, just get a Mod 50. So much fun to swap power tubes and bias, even pre amp tubes in the modules and of course just module swaps are fun as well. I love it.

Although I sold them all I've owned all three of the amps mentioned. I agree with Buckeye I would lean toward the Egnater because there are so many preamp options. The highest gain channel on the Einstien is a tad chewy like the 101b, but the voicing isn't similar to the Bogner. Personally I liked both the Mod50 and the Einstien way better than the XTC.

is the Egnater able to get that "squish" like the bogner red channel in any of its modules,
or is that a power amp thing? I with there was an Egnater dealer here!

All of my researching is now making me have cold feet on the Einstein & Cab I have on hold!!
The fact that channel 1, mode 3 was my fave on the Einstein would leave me with no clean tone.

While the clean on the Bogner is so-so, at least it's there

I didn't own either long as the bogner pull on me was never ending, but I would say the Egnater had more "Magic" and the modules sounded killer! I loved the clean on the bassman, and the SL2 has a great modded Marshal vibe imho.

I do like my bogners! I just wish the 101b sounded a bit like the 100b, or vice-versa.

Egnater if you have a hole in your pocket and am fickle, need to change things up (great for this)

I own some randall and egnater moduler stuff, its nice. But based on clips alone, I think I have preffered the overall sound of the Einstein , so for pure simple sound, based of off clips, einstein would do it for me.....

Depends on what you're looking for..... the Einstein is tighter than the Ecstasy, but for versatility, I'd give the nod to the 101b.

I prefer channel 2 on the Einstein to the Ectasy's red channel, but if you like the "squish", go Ecstasy.

The blue channel boosted on the Ecstasy is tough to beat (for me), but the cleans on Einstein get the nod.

I haven't owned the Mod 50, but have played a couple. I didn't dig it as much as either of the others, but I have limited experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

If you can't play them all, and you dig the feel of the Bogner, I'd say stick with that.

Edit: I've played the Tourmaster....fwiw, my immediate impression was poor man's Ecstasy...not a bad thing, but a different league than the others Great amp for the price point!

each really does carry it's own signature sound so you always have to ask yourself what specific style you are most interested in focusing on.

if you are trying to cover wider musical territory, in a single guitar band format, it's eggie all the way.

if you are primarily heavier rock, and are in a single or dual guitar setting, that's where einstein lives.

The other thing that needs to be understood about the Egnater/Randall gear, it is still "modeling" to a degree. Yes, it uses tubes and the tones can sound phenomenal but there is still something missing as far as the responsiveness and feel that comes from a dedicated tube amp that does one thing best.

i do think though that if you were to focus on one module's tone, and apply the right guitar/pickup/tubes/speaker/cab combo mentality that usually goes hand in hand with the dedicated amp concept, you may change your mind.
the vox module is like the best vox ac30 i've ever played. the twin module is like the best twin i've ever played. i wasn't as blown out playing the bassman or COD but i've heard clips that tell me otherwise. i still think bruce needs to spend a week with scott lerner to tweak the COD

i think bruce is very particular about what he feels is "the" marshall sound and colors it his warm way. the sl2 and eg5 have way more of that present sparkle than the older tol series.

there is still something about the presence circuit of the eggies that could be enhanced to shift more into marshall land....i talked a bit to frank L. about it at the vht booth at NAMM. the deliverance and the sig X have "it"...a wider swath of destruction in the upper mids.

The hardest thing is not being able to play the Egnater locally!
That would have made this easy.

The downsides on the Einstein that I've been mulling around:

--I liked the gain mode #3 on 1st channel better than the dedicated gain channel.
(which removes the clean channel...I don't really want to immediately mod that amp).

--Also wondering if the amp may be a tad too tight on the attack.
I felt *some* squish, it didn't feel as hard as the VH-4 or Herbert.
I also think part of that may have been due to that old 70's cab.

Do people find the notes too smooth on Einy? I do like
a bit of grain on there...the 101b I feel has just a hair too much.
(unless it's my speakers!! )

I don't know if any of you have actually tried these items.. it's at GC in SF.
I'm going there later today, will have a full day of pondering & freaking out
before I go.

Perhaps there's another amp all-together that's similar in EQ to the Bogner
but better, with a bit of squish?

SL & SL2 modules are definitely darker than the real deal, a Charvel with a low output PAF in the 8K range and a Marshall 4x12 with Celestion Heritage G12M Greenbacks seems like a killer combo that should have worked but just didn't. I tried Heritage G12H's, 65's as well. Too dark, too compressed, mids were weird almost like there was hole somewhere especially with the 65's. The high end was un-musical IMO, and I really had to to turn up that high end to get it to where I wanted. No AC/DC kerrang tone, roll back the volume, the mid-gain was just sterile and fake sounding. The EG5 was cool but felt real fake to me, had a metallic tone to it. I liked the T/DLX module for cleans but again, the feel was not there. I ended up giving up because I think I was driving Frank nuts to get where I wanted to be with that amp. Customer service was great though, and I will stress "was".

I never played a Diezel so I can't say. I met Peter though, nice guy.

If I had to choose beyween the two I'd take the Diezel. Yep Peter is a class act all the way as is Bruce... I just dont jive with their amps. But thats what makes the world an interesting place because we all like different things.
