Electro Harmonix Preamp tubes who else likes them and why ? Personally I love what they bring to the table , I prob wouldnt use a full set in an amp , But I like to mix some JJ or Chinese with them normally , thats my cocktail most of the time but I seem to like at least one or two EH in the mix. I have three in my bogner right now kicking all sorts of ass !

They work well in a darker amp, but bright amps, I don't dig as much.

Yeah they can be bright in a good way to my ears , got clarity and tightness too !

I read that they are very similar or same family as tung sol reissue.

I like them for V1's in amps that are either too dark or too stuffy in the low mids.

They're definitely in the same family as Tung Sols, yeah. I'd say the EHX's are more over-the-top bright, and a bit more scooped in the low mids, thus, they can be mud-cleaners. They may be a hair less gainy, but slightly.

Within that same family, my favorite is the Mullard CV4004. Clear, bright, and strong too, but with more of a barky midrange.

Yep, New Sensor - they do many... Tung Sol, Svetlana, Gold Lion, EHX, Sovtek, Mullard Reissue, etc. That's NOT to say they're all the same tube - while some similarities do exist, some others don't, and some are, actually, the same.

Odd bunch that New Sensor gang....odd bunch. But I'm a fan of a few of their tubes and I know they're NOT like the others under the same umbrella.

I run a CV4004 in V1 of my Splawn. Big, fat, and nice bark.
