Dear all,

Since a few day I notice the following problem with my Einstein 100 W head.
When I switch on the stand-by switch (after waiting for at least 1 minute after switching on the power on switch) I hear a kind of cracking noise (also in the clean channel.mode)
for a few seconds/half a minute even if my guitar volume is on zero. After that it disappears and does not come back (until the next day) if I switch the stand-by switch off (wait a several seconds) and on again .... any idea what this can be?

Tubes !

It´s not a Diezel "problem", it´s a tube fault.

Hi Peter,

preamp or power tubes? where should I start searching?

If You turn the master down and it disappears
it´s the preamp, if not it´s V6 or the power tubes.

Mine did something similar (although this sometimes cut in while I was playing) and it was power tube related...

Peter et al,

Thanks for the guidlines, but read it too late, had already replace one set of power tubes (one set of relatively new SED EL34's btw) and problem gone (will check tomorrow to be sure!).

So I will have to buy some new pairs of SED EL34's as a backup. I plan to buy them at Tube-town in Germany,
(good place since I live in Belgium) and plan to buy some spare pre-amp tubes too ... any advice for that Peter?

thanks again,

Jan
