Hello 1st post here and I am the proud new owner of a Diezel Einstein and love it. While surfing on e-bay the other day i came across a foot switch by Switch Dr. for the Einstein that allows switching of the modes and channels. I think it would be great to be able to switch modes on the fly but knowing nothing about this company and whats involved to adapt it leaves me questioning it. Anyone used / installed it and is it safe to do. I waited 3 years to get this amp and dont want to do something that will mess it up. But if it is a good clean easy mod with no side affect i would like it.
Suggestions or comments.

I know that there is an amp tech in L.A. who offers the Einstein mod incl. integration into a Midi system. If anyone is interested pls PM me for his email address as I have to dig it out first.

Thanks for the info and the PM

Can anyone here tell me if this switch will allow me to switch the modes while on Chanel 2 also. the guy who makes the switch says he is unsure. Or could someone please steer me in the correct direction.

Hey Shortfuse.

I have seen posts before with this misconception suggested also.

The mode switch has no effect on Channel 2.

I am sure Peter D will confirm?

Regards

Well either i have something wrong with the amp or i am loosing my mind because I have to say there is a definite difference in in tone and sound dependent on which mode position I am on while playing on Chanel 2. That is why I am asking the question and i am very courious about obtaining a foot switch and seeing the mod. I like Chanel 2 while in either mode 1 or 2 but do not like it if I am in mode 3 the sound kinda gets mushed if it is set there.
Suggestions or comments please.

Hey man,

First of all congrats!!! The Einstein is a wonderful amp enjoy it! The modes on channel 2 effect the compression I believe. That's all. The mod is really simple to do. You must wire a stereo jack to the 3 pins of the mode switch. I'd search the forums for the wiring diagrams if you haven't found them already. You can use a standard 2 button Marshall style footswitch for the modes just keep in mind that 3 modes with 2 buttons means sometimes pressing 2 buttons to get to your desired channel 1 setting. THESE will hold on channel 2, but I have no idea what the switcher you mentioned does for modes while in channel 2. Maybe stays on the last selected one or it might always switch to a predefined mode for chan 2.

Mode switching on the Einstien is difficult because there are huge volume differences in the channel 1 modes depending on your gain settings. Some people use the 2nd master volume to compensate for the volume difference. Personally, I'd recommend learning the amp very well and using 2 sounds per song and set the amp up prior to each song. I've also had great results clean boosting chn1 mode 2 to get some pretty nice heavier distortion tones close to mode 3 and rolling the volume back un-boosted for clean. The choice is yours, but I've had the best luck using the amp as it's intended to be used. A VERY versatile 2 channel amp.

I hope that helps and most of all have fun!

Ps. Most people clip one of the 4ohm speaker outs to mount the stereo jack.

Hey Shortfuse.

Its news to me, I can see or hear no evidence of mode switch affecting CH2. As I understand it 2 completely independant preamps.

Only one man can say for sure. Peter D will you answer this please?

Hey ShortFuse,

I've done the mod you are talking about on my Einstein. As suggested earlier, I used one of the speaker-outs as a switch-input. Takes a little work; nothing serious. Took a Marshall footswitch and wired it accordingly. Works perfectly.

That said, there are some things to consider.. It's hardly noticeable, but putting the Einstein in Mode Clean, Crunch or Mega has some sort of effect on the other channel's "compression" (for lack of a better word). Also, in order to make good use of the mode-switching, you need to set-up your Gain and Volume EXACTLY right. There will always be some difference in volume, but there is a sweet-spot that will make them all sound kind of equal in terms of volume.

These days, I don't use the mod anymore. I put my Einstein in Crunch and dial it in the way I LOVE it. On the verge of break-up, but not quite there. :) I use a Fulltone OCD to give me some extra drive. Then go up and over with the Lead channel. This gives me a better sound and all the versatility I need.

If you are looking to make the Einstein a 4-channel amp, I suggest you look at amps like VH-4 or Hagen. IMHO, if you set the channel up in a way that will make all modes sound equal in volume, you will miss out on all the excellent tones this amp has to offer. Or you could just settle for "average"... in which case I doubt you would have pulled the trigger on a Diezel in the first place. :)

This has been brought up time and time again over the last 3 years I've been an Einstein owner poking around on the forum. Peter hasn't commented on it to my knowledge but here is another thread discussing the topic further. http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=62744

Interesting discussion going on there. I will have a listen next time I fire her up (Sunday) at a gig. I can see the logic behind what is being said but when I listened before I could detect no discernable difference.

In the course of a 2 hour set I switch to lead from all 3 modes and spend quite some time soloing. Sometimes I use Ch 2, sometimes master 2 on Ch1 gets kicked in. Maybe it is a very subtle thing and as mentioned matched to Ch1 to be a complement?

I love all sounds on the Einstein, so I am happy. best amp I have ever owned.

Would love to hear Peters answer.....

Badger to me its more of a response thing.. In the mix it's hard to tell. Listen to it by itself in channel 2 and manually flip the switch as you play.

I don't think papa is going to have much to say about Einey since D-Moll just went public.

Thank you all who have replied to this thread. It is cool that there are so many opinions on the subject of weather the mode switch has a direct affect on channel 2. I can tell you this mine has a definite tonal change i have the 100w version and I am running KT88's. On channel 2 mode 1 clean the distortion is much crisper and set at #2 Texas its a little looser and in position #3 I don't care for it at all just kinda sounds like mush. That's how I found it did this I had the amp for about a week and usually left it set at Texas because I can pretty much get all the sounds I need from channel 2 and 1 set at Texas. But one night I set it to #3 mega and switched to channel 2 and was like what just happened and started messing with stuff and found that the mode switch affects channel 2.
Well I was able to get in touch with the guy that helped design the pedal and he confirmed that you can toggle through the modes on either channel and looking at the install or wiring diagram it is pretty straight forward no lifting traces or any of that nonsense as I would not do it if that's what had to be done.
I will report back to this thread once I have received the switch and install it.
I will tell you this these amps are the best sounding amps I ever played through. I played one up in Nashville 2 years ago and fell in love with it. I recently sold several other amps to purchase this one the full stack JMP 2203, 1987 Plexi, and several other amps and was wondering if I was going to regret doing so when I finally received this one. No regrets at all I love it. Tried a Hagen 2 months ago and if I had the money that's what I would have purchased but for now I am loving my Einstein. Hagen some day soon.

Good luck with the mod. Be sure to post some pics and report on your progress!!!! Seems to be a topic of some interest eh? Hope Peter does chip in. I am sure he won't disown Einstein just because a new amp is out. He is named after his best friend.........

D Moll looks interesting, sort of Herbert meets Einstein meets Schmidt (channel orientation).....

I can't say I am entirely interested however. Unless that Lotto ticket comes good........

Einstein is too good, and no matter what I replaced it with I know I would miss it. Also a combo just suits my needs better.

If you or anyone else would like this switch, I have a GREAT deal on one from my Einstein. I'll include the stereo mod jack as well. It's just sitting in my cabinet waiting for a new home. It even has an AC adapter input line built into it if you don't want to run it with batteries. .

Let me know via PM if interested.
