Not wishing to dwell on what has been a bad few weeks, but to cut a long story short my Einstein combo was damaged when left at a pals house and a water mains burst.

I've had the insurance assessor deem my amp is beyond repair and I should within the next few weeks get a check to the value of a new combo - thankfully I had old for new insurance.

My dilema is although I loved my combo. A while ago I tried a Einstein head through a Mesa 212 closed back cab and was seriously amazed what it sounded like. I'm sort of thinking I will go for a 100 watt Einstein head with a Rectifier 212 cab OR should I go for the 50 head and a Diezel 212 front loaded cab with V30s. The price between the two options is almost identical.

IMO the 100s sounds better.

Is it just the 100 has more headroom or is there something else to the tone of the 100?

Just my personal preference, probably the different transformer - has nothing to do with the wattage.

I should have mentioned I'm in the UK and Mills cabs are very very rare.

Those two cabs sound quite different. They both sound great with Einy but try to hear them with the head.
+1 for the 100W over the 50W, just for the vibe. They dont have significant difference in volume level but 100W seems to be more .....................
Also you can blend output tubes.
