I just installed some old GT labeled EI's in the SL module. Wow what a huge difference over the WA's. The tone has a nice sweet midrange yet very clear w/o being harsh. I'm nailing Free's Fire and Water tone.

I also put Jan 5751's in the T/D module. This is the ticket with this module. Sweet and clear w/o being too bright.

What tubes do you guys prefer in V1 and the P.I of the amp? It just keeps getting better

I think I have a NOS RCA in V1. made a huge difference in clarity. Pretty sure I have aNOS GE 12AT7 in the V2 of my M4 chassis. Sounds fine@!

For the "gainier" modules, I'm real happy with chinese in V1 and the Stock Sovteks in V2 or maybe a Tung Sol.

Lower gain modules I like the Jan GE 5751's in V1 with stock in V2.

I've found that although V2 does make some differences, the stock one sounds just fine overall.

I think I have an Ei somewhere........I'll have to try it in my SL.

Oh, I do have a JJ in the EG5 though........darkens it up just a bit as the EG5 is a bright module. It works great in there.

I've got a boxload of tubes, but find myself reaching for the good old chinese tubes most of the time.

Oh and seriously, you gotta try Tung Sol 6550's in the power section. Just amazing power tubes for the Mod 50.

I think I have maybe the stock whatever AT7 in my PI slot in the chassis. I've swapped around and haven't noticed a ton of difference either way.

V2 I keep stock across the board.

I've also noticed that I prefer mixed tubes from V1 to V2, as opposed to the same type of tube in each slot. Finding tubes that compliment one another, tonewise.

Wagster, you're right on the money, 5751 in the Twin, TD, and Deluxe is just magic. It's also killer in a VX module.

I load my SL with some vintage NOS Westinghouse tubes, it gives it a great crunch tone, lots of depth.

V1 I found an icredible NOS tube for V1 in my head. A good tube there will just enhance ANY module that you put in the head.

I picked up a pair of GT 6L6GE's for a backup. I hate the way these sound in the Mod50. I'll stick with the Sovtek 5881's.

  So far that was the ONLY tube that has sounded like total ass in the mod50

Figures out of all the tubes out there I picked up the shitty one

I have a pair of NOS Yugo Eis and a couple of Ei Elites....the NOS ones are fantastic sounding in the low/mid gain marshall stuff and just melt face when boosted....can't remember where my Ei Elites are

I'm looking for a power tube that's a little sweeter and complex than the 5881's. I want my cleans to have a little more body. What do you guys recommend?

If I had to have one tube choice for the Mod 50,and I like a few,but If I had to recommend one,the Tung Sol 6550s hands down  Big and full

How do the Tung-Sol 6550's sound for the Fender stuff compared to the 5881's? The GT 6L6GE's fall apart in the Mod 50 when I turn it up. The Sovtek 5881WXT's are loud and clean but a tad one dimensional sounding.

I found a old RCA in my tube stash. I put it in V1 and it really improved the tone of the amp. It sounds clearer and smoother at the same time. Thanks

I have got a couple of specially selected EI preamp tubes and I like the EI tube the most.
