EL34-BG versus EL34-BHT

Folks have been wondering about the difference in tonality between the new BG and the BHT type. A few days ago I swapped the BGs in a Hagen with BHTs and the difference was very noticeable to me.

While the BHTs do have a bit more bottom end, the BGs feel much more tight and defined, especially in the upper mids range. The overtones are more musical and easier on the ear. I pick a lot with my right hand fingers and the BGs whip it back to me like no other tube I heard before.
I used different guitars and cabs (K100s, V30s, Hemp Cones) for this test and the difference was noticeable across the board.

I personally would not use any other tube type at this point.

I will be performing the same test on 2 VH4 amps that I am getting in for repair and re-tube shortly. Will be interesting....

Is one of those VH4's that you will be testing those BG's in mine? Haha.

Anyway though, let me know the results of these bad boys in a VH4 :)

They sound like winners :)

I don't know about that...Pauly looks like he is plenty happy in his Avatar

So, Jens, you are using the BG's across the board? Hagen, VH4, Herbert, etc?? Tested Herbert yet?? Maybe that can be done when mine arrives at your place, in a few days :D

Sending it tomorrow...now where was that address??
