Folks have been wondering about the difference in tonality between the new BG and the BHT type. A few days ago I swapped the BGs in a Hagen with BHTs and the difference was very noticeable to me.
While the BHTs do have a bit more bottom end, the BGs feel much more tight and defined, especially in the upper mids range. The overtones are more musical and easier on the ear. I pick a lot with my right hand fingers and the BGs whip it back to me like no other tube I heard before.
I used different guitars and cabs (K100s, V30s, Hemp Cones) for this test and the difference was noticeable across the board.
I personally would not use any other tube type at this point.
I will be performing the same test on 2 VH4 amps that I am getting in for repair and re-tube shortly. Will be interesting....
