Has anyone tried both in a higher gain application? are the EL34L better?

i used them in a Jubilee i used to have & they seem to bring out more low end.

I have had both sets... In comparison the E34L has more lowend , they are also more aggressive. The regular JJ EL34 is a sweeter sounding tube to my ears , nice midrange and smooth highs, good clarity also. Only downside is they can lack a bit of bass depending on the amp they can be a bit lean in the lows. I think the JJ KT77s are worth considering too because as much as I like the EL34s over the E34L's the KT77s I liked best out of all three.

In your avatar is that a Quickrod? If so Im curious what power tubes are you running. Thanks.

E34L come across more aggressive than EL34 to my ragged old ears. I've run both tubes from JJ and the 34L seem to have a harder/tighter low end, more grind in the mids and sound great for the heavy stuff. I also REALLY like JJ KT77s.

I prefer the extended low end and more aggressive crunch of the E34Ls. A while back I compared JJ EL34, JJ E34L, SED Winged Cs and Ruby EL34 BSTRs in a Splawn Quick Rod. The JJ E34Ls were my favorite of the bunch and have been my go to ever since.

Ditto.
E34L = tighter low end and more aggressive midrange with a slightly extended high end range.
EL34 = Looser lows, smoother/sweeter mid range and not as bright in the high frequencies.

Amp specific for sure, but as an overall consensus - yes

I dig the E34Ls for low end oomph and aggression.
