i have heard of people doing it,...tube people sell matched quads of (2) el34's & (2) 6l6's...i have a xxx that i run the tubes waaay too hot and am thinking of trying this set up,...anyone ever do it?..
I've run EL34s and 6L6s with both my Herbert and Mesa Mark III (Simulclass). Both amps are designed for it, so there were no issues. I really wasn't a fan of those particular tubes mixed in either amp, though that's just my opinion. I ended up prefering all 6L6s in my Mark and a mix of 6550s and EL34BHTs in the Herbert. Is there something your looking to accomplish by doing it? Is there a tone or tonal change you're going for by doing it?

Sounded great in the Fortin Hulk mod I played. The reason for running two sets of different power tubes Mike explained was because EL 34's can lose some bottom end tightness after an hour or so of gigging volume and the 6L6 or 6550 etc help the amp to retain the botttom end, but you still get the nice mids the EL34's give.
To do this you would need to bias each pair seperately, so the Peavey would need to be modded to do this 'cause it has only one bias test point/adjustment.
