Electronic music?

Anyone else into electronic music?

I dig it, since getting my Push and Ableton early this year I've been more interested in doing more than just listening. I recently upgraded my Push to a Push 2, and took advantage of Thanksgiving sales to get electronic music equipment. Learning Ableton and Push are taking longer than I hoped since I spent most of 2015 revamping my guitar and bass gear, now I plan to focus on learning the electronic gear I ordered that should be showing up this week, and Ableton / Push.

Anyone else into this music?

I use Ableton live 8, for recording rock. It has a lot of instruments and features you really have to sit down and read to understand. warp fuctions, lots of goodies. I like a little electronic, but I get ear fatigue after a while. It's like listening to a 10 minute shred guitar solo... tooooo muuuuch!

What is push?

Love all kinds of electronic music. Check out Celldweller!

The Push is a hardware controller / instrument / surface for Ableton Live:

I need to spend more time learning with both Live and Push.

Getting a few components of the Roland Aira modular system (which also integrates with Ableton Live) to decompose the creation, arranging and sequencing, etc. aspects of electronic music...then work my way back into Live and Push. At least this is the current plan... now that I have my guitar and bass rigs sorted out (for now). I should be able to integrate these into the system as well though can't play it all at once by myself. ;) It's a new process and creation approach for me, but I'm having a blast.

I've been using this site to explore different genres, it plays samples with name of the band/song. Not all are accurate, e.g., I dig j-pop but the example wasn't very pop, and definitely wasn't Japanese!

been digging Daft Punk, Hotline Miami, Perturbator, ... so many to list, I just keep it playing and make note of bands/songs that come up I like for future exploration...the genre and subgenres are expansive... so much music, so little time...

OK, I am behind the curve, I bought an apc40 with mine, and it was a lot to learn all at once, it's collecting dust right now. The push is way more advanced but looks user friendly. Once I hooked a mic up and recorded a guitar track, that was it... how do I program drums, use the other instruments, etc.. Yes it is fun!

Breath Carolina is the last CD I bought, and it was for my wife. Won't black out I think was the song, but a few songs later they had some heavy riffage in there that surprised me. I would like to learn more, but time is in short supply, 3 kids, work etc. But I will and should update my program.

The Push is very powerful, and you need a good understanding of Live, which I'm also still learning.

I revamped my guitar rig this year with Boss / Roland (Zoom for bass now), and looked for a modular system...I found the Roland AIRA system, it has several separate components that will let me focus on different areas with controls designed for each: drums, bass, synth, voice...with a mixer. I'm waiting for the mixer; it consolidates the components and provides additional controls; and integrates with Live over USB. If I can make this work, I'll be better prepared for the Push.

My son is showing some interest, which I hope grows. (I got him the Korg iKaossilator app for his iPad), he's taken piano lessons in the past, and we're going to start that again next year...he never really took interest in guitar or bass.

I've been on a j-pop kick of late, especially Gacharic Spin, and their other band Doll$Boxx, Wagakki band,... really getting into CHVCHES, just ordered CDs...

I'm having a blast discovering lots of new, fresh music and ideas.

I'm a big Sasha fan. He used ableton for a long time but I think he's using something else now. I dig progressive music in general, electonic or rock etc. Sashas involver series is great driving music for me or what I call active distraction. Not sure if it's adhd or what but I find I need some sort of music as an active distraction in order to focus on whatever work I am actually trying to get done.

Yeah, Squarepusher's early records, Autechre, Igorrr, Enduser, Venetian Snares, I like a lot of Hip Hop and often think the electronic music element goes undermentioned. Apart from Dalek...

I also went making some for shits and giggles! https://soundcloud.com/daphuq/sets

I didnt like Ableton though. I'm a diehard Cubase user and use Caustic for writing beats and sounds. I know it's a bit backwards but I prefer the quite limited environment (...and shallower learning curve).

Never thought I'd see this here.

I've only been at it for six months or so. I just use the plug ins that came with Pro Tools(Xpand2, Vacuum). I'd really like to learn more. I've heard of Ableton but have never used it. I have trouble creating samples/sounds that don't sound cheesy, haha

Hey man that sounds killer! No Colby there!  I see you have a license on there, is that to protect your music? And how do you do that?

I love a lot of electro and electropop. I took my little sisters to the Lights concert that came through just after Thanksgiving and she was awesome. I saw her on Valentines too, but this time around she put on a better show despite her having the flu. I also really like CHVRCHES, Gunship(check them out for sure if you like Perturbator), the aforementioned Perturbator, VNV Nation, Pendulum, and Knife Party amongst others. My favorite album last year was Lights' Little Machines, and my favorite album this year so far is Gunship's s/t.

Aphex Twin and Squarepusher are my 2 personal faves. Mistabishi is not half bad either.

On soundcloud, it's in the Metadata tab when you click to edit a song. I just did it because someone wanted to add some of my tracks to a group, and told me to do that
