Electrovoice 4x12 cab??? EDIT: PICS ADDED!!!!

I had a 4x12 loaded with EVM12L's. 300 watts continous each. Even though that made the cab able to handle 1200 watts, I could still push it to the point that it just did not sound good with a 100 watt tube head. Maybe if the cab were ported it would have worked out better.

Edit: Pics added in first post...second one in progress, but I'm having issues with it.

Also: MSRP on this cab was $2000! 749 I thought was a steal :D

Try that link, that is the front of the cab, let me know if it works guys

*Back of cab pic added in very first post of this thread, just in case anyone cares :D

It works. Looks pretty neat.

u just buy it? have u picked it up yet? what does it sound like?

It sounds absolutely ridiculous! I haven't picked it up yet, it is paid for though. but I have played through it quite a few times. Most recently with a maxon boosted recto, and a 5150 III. It's tighter than shit, but with a huge bottom end. Sound really fills the room. It really does sound absolutely massive. Anyone have any thoughts on the construction? aka the plexi see thru back and just thoughts on that? thanks :D

Also, quite honestly this is the best constructed and most "heavy duty" cabinet I have ever seen. It is thicker than hell, and the craftsmanship is great, the pictures really don't do it justice. I am a huge fryette/VHT cab fan, but these cabs are much more heavy than those even I think personally. One of the managers at sam ash said this wasn't something they made alot of, almost like getting a prototype. Pretty Cool I think :)

the reason for the plexi glass was only to showcase the speakers. Unfortunately they due crack easily and are not airtight. These cabs. where done for trade shows, be careful will not hold up if gigging.

Hmm, gotcha. Where did you get this info from? What other options are there for a back if I decide to take off the plexi glass? Also why do you say it won't hold up for gigging? All of my stuff is pretty much mint and I am a gigging musician? Although my band does have a trailor so that helps. Like I said, this cab seems sturdier as anything on the market, if not better.

I would get the cab, but I would replace with a plywood back. If you add castors (which I would) I would get the pop-out removable type.

Hey man, thats exactly what I was just doing right now! Got more info on the cabinet.

The cabinet was made by mojotone. I've never played one of these cabs, but the construction appears to be top notch. All baltic birch etc, just real heavy duty. Heard a rumor these are the closest "replicas" to a 60's era marshall cab, who knows, not that I really care about that though however it is cooL! They sell the casters for it, and theres already holes on the bottom for the casters to just pop right in.

The hard part I think is going to be getting the plywood back. There is only one input jack on the this particular cab, however I believe on most mojotone cabinets, the input jack is quite different, and has 2 inputs.

My biggest problem right now, is finding the OHMS of the cabinet. There are 4 8 OHM speakers in there, doesn't that come out to around 2.6 OHMS or so? THAT is what is scaring me more than anything right now....

The ohmage will destroy alot of amps. 99% of amps will not handle those
Ohms. Looking at new trannys for sure.

From talking with mojotone and EV it sounds like it's an 8 OHM cabinet, as all the speakers are wired in series I believe. Mojotone said they can send me a wood back for it no problem too :D
Heres a link to mojotone and the cabinet.

My guess is its an 8ohm cab and wired in series/parallel or parallel/series. If all the 8ohm speakers were in series it would be a 32ohm cab (not likely). If all the 8ohm speakers were in parallel it would be a 2ohm cab (more likely, but still not likely). If you want to know for sure, just take a digital multi meter and measure the output, if its 6-7ohms or so, its an 8ohm cab. I would be shocked if its not an 8ohm cab frankly.

As for the back, you can easily buy a piece of plywood and make your own. Then get the tolex and glue from Mojo and cover it. Its not too hard to do. Here is a place on line for example that sells birch plywood. http://www.woodnshop.com/Hardwood/Balti ... lywood.htm. However if Mojo will just send you one, that would be much easier and might be cheaper too.

Thanks guys for all your help. Mojotone seems like a pretty neat company, seems like they can do ANYTHING. They sell every piece of anything they sell (amp kits, cabinets, etc) all seperately, so they are going to send me the "real" back to this cab.  Cool dudes over there for sure.
