Tone is so subjective and in the hands of the less than experienced, the Axe ( or ANY amp/modeler) can sound like ass. I disagree that the 11R sounded anything like a POD. It is nothing like it. But, like everything related to tone, it's all dependant on your setup, how your listening to it (monitors, headphones, poweramp/speakers) and what your ears like.
For me, it comes down to what I need and what I want to spend. I don't need all the AxeFX offers. I use these things as tools and most of the time, the Ryobi drill does the job just as good as the Dewalt, if ya know what I mean. I would prefer to spend the $$ on something I do need. That's just me
I just don't think the 2 boxes are necessarily intended for the same crowd. They each have their niche.
