Elixer strings for electric, anyone?

I use Elixer's on my acoustic exclusively..... However IMO their elctric strings just don't feel right. I use D'Addario (10-46?) for standard and drop D....and GHS (10-60) for Drop A and B Standard.

they originally started with polywebs and the string coating was so think they felt like candles

now with nanowebs it's a totally different ballgame. i'd NEVER use the polyweb

The nanowebs came on my Suhr tele. I didn't like the sound or the feel.

I had a similar experience as Lord Toneking. I purchased a PRS SC several years ago and just loved the way the strings felt. I called the store where I bought it and they said they had put Elixir's on it. I have been using them ever since. I used D'Addario's, EB's, etc for years. I could never get 2 nights out of a set playing live without breaking a string in the first set of the second gig. I get 2 or 3 gigs out of the Elixir's without breakage. Even if I couldn't get more than one night I would still buy them simply because I love the feel.

I'm a believer as well. I enjoy their 11 set with the unwound G in the Nanowebs. I really love the way they feel and they don't give you the scratchiness nearly as much. I leave them on my guitars for months without noticeable tone depletion.

So we're more in favor of the nanoweb versus the polyweb, is this correct?

Mo

love em. i have nanos on my three electrics right now. just recently switched to em from d'addario and wont go back. i will try the polyweb next time just for kicks probably

When I was playing out 5-7 nights a week 8 years ago nothing could compete with them with longevity, I used to get 1-2 weeks out of a set without wiping strings down and leaving them splattered with alcohol and crud
But I always did feel that they did not have that snappiness like a fresh set of slinky's if you are into that..
But to me the longevity out weighed the negatives and I still use them..

I've been using the Elixers as well due to their longevity, and have not experienced any down side other than their cost. I did get 5 sets of Pyramid Nickel Classics Round Core that I am going to try on my R7. Alot of the guys over at the MLP Forum swear by these, so I'll give them a shot.

They last forever and feel great, I've got them on 90% of my guitars. The only thing that can be an issue as a seven string player is the jump in gauges from 52 to 56 to 68 on thicker strings... irritates me too since they have a 59 acoustic =/
That's just it, I LOVE their strings, but as you said, for a seven, it just does not work for me. I am extremely picky with my tensions across all the strings, and they just do not have the sizes for me to stay within my ideal tolerance. :(

Aurora Strings for everything. No comparison to anything I've played both tone and durability-wise. And -I've played them all...

Bought a $89 3/4 size acoustic guitar from GC 10 years ago and it had a new set of Elixir strings. That guitar still has those same strings on it. I have beaten the hell out of that thing and they still sound good enough for what I use it for. I have played acoustics with strings only a few months old that don't sound any better. Funny, I never even considered trying them on my electric........ until now.

I'm going to be picking a few sets of the Nanowebs up. Sounds as though they're at least worth a shot

I just put sets on two of my electrics and two of my acoustics, and I don't think I will be going back to D'Addario (20+years)
I have heard from other players that they break faster or "more" than other strings, but I can't imagine why.
Polyweb for Acoustic and Nanowebs for electrics.
