elmwood m60 or soldano slo100

How doe the elmwood m60 stack up against the slo 100? Are they pretty equal in terms of gain? Which one is more marshall sounding. How about for basement jamming I hear the slo need to be wicked up pretty hard to get into its sweet spot. I more into the the 80's-90's hard rock scene. Thanks
 
The M60 was more aggressive compared to the SLO100, which is a bit on the smooth side IMHO. Where I feel the M60 is great for rhythms, the SLO was awesome for lead work...though they both excel on each front. Cleans on the M60 beat the SLO, to my ears. M60's more versitile, but they are both awesome amps.

hey 232 cap don't you own a cameron modded marshall? If so and you are looking to add another amp to your rig, go Elmwood modena 60. Slo soldano is better for lead work IMHO, It is yet another flavor for better than most lead work. Mark's amps are the same way. Now the Elmwood's have a killer versatility for doing some KILLER STUFF! :yes: Then again once you get Mark's amps going, it very clear which one to use for leads. :rock:
 
Yea I have a jmp hg jose. The cameron rips as you know but I just like to tinker. The clips of the modena sound great to me and it has a clean channel. The sad part of this story is I only jam in my basement. :lol: :LOL:

:2thumbsup: I agree with that! Ya know I like the soldano slo alot. But there is just something that keeps me from ever taking the pay in faith. :confused: Where as the Elmwood modena amps. Man I can't pay for it fast enough. :lol: :LOL: 232 cap, dude DO WHAT YA GOTTA DO! But Elmwood is a sure thing. :yes: I know a guy that is trust worthy and he has a brand new one he is selling and he has the elmwood head cover he is throwing in.

I've owned both and would probabaly buy another Elmwood prior to an SLO...FWIW - mine is / was the infamous "barely on..." amp formerly owned by Todd Duane :yes: ;)
 
I've been looking at Elmwood and Soldano (Avenger) myself, but my playing goes more towards black/death/folk metal rather than hard rock. I love the thick sound of these heads, but I'm wondering if the Elmwood – especially the softer voiced m60 – and Avenger/SLO can really pull off more extreme metal.

You might want to check if these heads can pull off heavy and punchy sounds; while they will have enough gain, they might be a bit "round" sounding for very aggressive styles. Anyway, that's my fear, you would have to check for yourself if it fits your playing style. :confused:
 
i'd throw the Cornford MK50 into the mix.


what little bit of time i've got on the Cornford, it's right there with the SLO for hang time on the leads, only not as bright and damned good on rythmn.

Played with Revelation Theory a few years back, and he was running a Cornford MK50 H and a Mesa Boogie Dual together. It sounded great. Heard just the Cornford during soundcheck, and that amp really impressed me.
 
I've owned the M60, M90 and a couple of SLO's (plus an Avenger). I'd take a SLO with depth mod without hesitation. :thumbsup:

I run a m60 and a jcm800-aldrich together.. cool mix when running together. m60 gets all the clean and rhythm work, and add in the jcm for the leads. so far it's one of my favorite combinations. the m60 has triode mode and sounds great at lower volumes. that should be a big plus for ya..
 
I was gonna mention Cornford MK50h too but I didn't wanna come across as a jerk promoting his own amp.

I prefer it to SLO (although I LOVE SLO too)
But I can't say much vs Elmwood since I haven't tried one.
 
I had a mk50 for about a week and it rocked great amp but I would like a 2 channel amp just for the flexability.My cornford came on line when you get the master turned up as it likes to be palyed loud. That is also what I hear about the soldano must turned up pretty loud to sound good. I almost bought a mk50II but held off to try a slo or m60. I'm still torn between the m60 and slo not too much into the new heavy modern stuff so the m90 is out.

Both great amps. M60 is more versatile. Two channels, two volumes, and boost. Channel one with the boost on is the sound of classic rock. Really. Channel two is very spongy, really easy to play. Plenty of gain.

Having said all that, I like the SLO more. It just responds a bit better to my style of playing.

mmmm...probably mostly 80's style...kind of Lynchy, shreddy type stuff. In that vein.
 
So basically if you are a 80's guy the soldano might be the way to go. I wonder how close it will sound to my cameron hg jose? Is the elmwood too modern sounding in your opinion?

No, I don't think the M60 is too modern, the 90 is more so. For me, I just like the immediacy of the SLO. It just feels more articulate to me. I don't think the SLO will really sound like your Cameron, but if you're looking for something to add versatility, get the Modena. It seems as though you have the 80's shreddy thing in the Cameron, and the Modena really is a great amp.

Edit: I love the SLO crunch channel with the gain cranked up. Great sound, really articulate.
 
The Modena is really a cool amp, but it does have a somewhat modern voicing to it - very hard to explain but to compare it to an Uberschall is not a stretch. It certainly does not have that 'give' of a Marshall melting down. I liked the one I had for a long time and then its voicing just wore on me and I couldn't un-hear the things I disliked about it anymore, if that makes sense.

FWIW I've had the M60, M90, about 7 Camerons, 2 SLO's, etc, etc... :yes:
