This is just a hypothetical, or maybe it isnt

Lets suppose Elmwood was going to design a preamp. What features would you like to see and tones be covered. Heres mine

heres Rob's Elmwood preamp.

channel 1 clean w/ 3 toggle voicing switch and adjustable boost ( it would be great marketing if the clean can nail a fender, vox and something else for the country players)
channel 2 best plexi tone u can get with adjustable drive/ boost ( can have the beautiful cranked plexi sound that cleans up well)
channel 3 the 80s/90s shred tone with adjustable drive/boost ( ive found what attracts shredders is mid response and they all like it different)
channel 4 massive heavy distortion designed for the real heavy stuff and some sort of flexible eq and gain structure for guys that tune real low. (if i kick in the second drive, it adds even more gain and also more thum for the 7 stringers)
fully midi all independent eqs. series parallel loop.

remember this is just a hypothetical or maybe it is a research think tank for the Elmwood guys. But Im just a nobody. How would I know if they are actually designing a preamp

Sounds GREAT,maybe just in time for when I do the rack thing..

i tell everyone that racks are comin back and its a great thing

I ventured into rack land but I'm not sure I'd ever go back - too much work for flexibility I didn't really need. That said, since we're just, ahem, talking hypothetically...

One of my favorite tones of years past was through a Mesa Quad Pre with both channels engaged - it was an undocumented feature, but you could have a cleaner tone and a heavier tone going at the same time. It really sounded great and would open up a world of possibilities.

Midi controllable loops too.

as for tones - what's in the Modena is already pretty darned good, but...

Hiwatt clean - kraaang!
Classic Orange OD - it's a bit more thick and chewy than a plexi.
Modena Channel 2

Yup - that would pretty much do it for me. Of course a fourth channel capable of complete sonic mayhem would have it's possibilities now that I think of it...

The last line of your post is a question I presume ? Anywho you ask a question and get a question in return.  but my answer to you would be, you and I know some folks that others do not. Or do we ? lastly you could also be a very skilled hacker that was able to go to a certain computer and gain info . NAH! just too much Television talking. ;)

i think im more of the connected type
 I am a firm believer in your honesty. Of course a phone call from the higher ups telling me things you are talking about only confirms your statements. I guess we will need to talk in the near future. Hey one thing you and I and alot of others can say firmly is the guys at Elmwood deliver. PERIOD! They are great! Anything they come up with will be worth a run for the money. ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED! ;)

Channel 1: Jimi to Stevie
Channel 2: Slash to Zakk
Channel 3: Hetfield to Petrucci
Channel 4: Lead with some voicing options to match your favorite decade

Pretty simple ;)

Yup, you pretty much covered it here

Im buying one if its a reality..Love the m90..I agree w/ everyones input. I would only add that besides midi,it should also have 1/4" switching in the rear, so all the rack switchers can do thier job too..And front / rear input..plus 2 outputs, ground lift...you other guys covered the tone aspect.

The badcat preamp is hands down the best clean/ to med. grit sound/tone thats in the rig..you can even change preamp tubes via footpedal, which I think is a first for the pre side of things...Id sure like to see others get into the rack pre arena such as; diezel,Cameron, Elmwood,etc....

An Elmwood preamp is an awesome idea - as long as it's affordable. 4 channels would be cool as hell. It would be cool if they put like a headphone jack on it.

What are we talking here, stricly 4 channel preamp or like effects or modeling and stuff?

Rob, whats the latest on the Elmwood pre becoming a reality? :)

I won`t argue with you about that because you really have good tone. But if you get the chance to try out the Diezel Einstein compare it to other amps stripped for any effects i think you would be surprised. By the way the following clip gives a pretty good idea of how the amp sounds.I for myself have never heard an amp even close as good without effects. And by the way the clean channel is to die for too.I said the Shiva had the best clean but they were really close.I sound like a Diezel salesman but i am not.I also could put it in other words:My playing came out best with the Diezel. The sales guy liked the Shiva better...

PERFECT- love the tones suggested.

AND how about an introductory launch price of $999.00 for SELECT Rig Talk members who:

1. Play Guitar.

2. Can bench press AT LEAST TWO KT88 Tubes at ONCE.
