emg 81 85 question

I love the sound of my emg 81 but the 85 is so much louder I have lowered the 85 but their is still such a volume difference I was thinking of getting a different emg for the neck pickup since I have the quick disconnect can anyone recommended a pickup? Thanks!

I like the 60, others like an 81 in the neck as well.
Guess it depends if you want shred leads from the neck or nice cleans, or both.

60 is a good match with the 81.

85 neck was too bass-heavy for me. Went 81/81.

I flipped the configuration in my Les Paul and put the 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck. Problem solved and the tone was better than expected. I then added the 18 volt mod, and while the difference was subtle, it did open up the sound some more.

Hey thanks for the info I think I'm gonna go with the 60 in the neck and leave 81 in bridge and see how that gos!

85 in the bridge is much better imo. I didn't find it to be louder. I did find it to be more passive sounding than the 81 with less of the razor mid of the 81.
