Unless I'm missing something, I'm not seeing what the difference is in these.

I would like to put EMG's in my axe, and I've been loving the single coil push/pull pot that came with the guitar originally...and would like to keep that flexibility.

These pups seem right in line with what I want....but I dont see what the difference is between the two different models of the same pup.....

Any help?

I've owned the 707TW and TWX. The TWX is more open in feel. I use it for the neck. I flip it 180 degrees so the single coil is closer to the neck for a better Strat neck sound. Now I have a TWXR model so the EMG logo is in the right spot.

ok so, essentially same EMG frequency response, just not as 'compressed' and more open?

If I read into that right, it woudl have the same feel as the Hetfield's then? I believe his signature set has that cross feel between active/passives....

thats a nice trick, I may consider that then....I really would prefer to keep the single coils on the outside then so that I get the more extreme sounds for that setting.

The Hetset has ceramic mags which will be brighter, whereas the 57/66 has alnico. I run a 57 in the bridge, and it's the best sound I've had to date. I ran the 66 in the neck, but it didn't compare to sound and versatility of the 707TWXR for neck tones.
