Uh, WOW...
Got EMG to send me a semi-custom Revelation Set for my new Charvel DK24 HH HT M... they threw in gold screws with the standard black plastic cap, and boy they look scrum-deli-ishous!!
I haven't used passives since I was a kid, but man, EMG crushed it with this set. Something really interesting going on in the mid-range which makes me want to just play and explore to find sounds, almost more than notes. I was a little worried that since they are low output, it wouldn't have enough punch on the front end of my amps and Theta Pro, so I grabbed an EMG Afterburner. As someone mentioned in another thread, it's super noisy, but really didn't need it so it'll come out soon... but if I need a touch more punch, a few tiny tweaks in the gain settings on the amps and that problem is solved.
Very clear and open, yet precise. A fun low end that isn't flubby at all, but the mids are where the magic is for these pickups. There's a certain something that always feels or sounds like EMG, but they are definitely not active. It's a tightness or compression, maybe? It's much more controlled than say, the Seymour Duncan Full Shred (came stock), which to my ears just felt and sounded like loose paper. The cleans are AMAZING, and the high gain stuff just makes me want to keep exploring...
Enjoy the look and here's a little sound too!
