I like some of his work but this for me is 100000000000000000000 x :jerkit:

That word genius sure gets thrown around rather loosely.

"My pants are falling down...I should pull them up"
If he's a genius, he'd pull his pants up.

Jimmy Page... now there's a genius.

Page is genius...

Eminem brought rap to whities and did so well. I like his bent on music, and his sense of humor makes me laugh. But genius?? Hard to say... I'm no rap aficionado on the best of days.

Zappa, another genius.

I've said this before and will say it again... I loved Zep as a younger guy, thought they were great. But it was only later in life - and more so currently than ever before - that his ability to write, his nuances, his phrasing, his creativity - all of it blows my mind. I'm now into recording and songwriting and so forth, and this makes me listen to music with a different ear or sense. Sure, some of the recordings for Zep were a bit loose and fizzy, those were the times, but the creativity keeps revealing itself the more I listen to them and Page in particular.

I know, I know...KC has a thing with Page being a fake. But I can only take that tangent so far. Page mighta lifted the odd run or riff here and there, like anybody else who was raised on the blues or jazz or classical or the like. But it takes a mind to MAKE the music, and Page certainly did MAKE the music.

I know...he's so original, to have come up with all of that great stuff.

From my perspective, designing a rap like this takes just as much thought and talent as guitar playing. If not more. Learning the essentials of guitar playing, you move in blocks, you learn the 12 notes and how they interact (or not), and use that as your springboard. With anything vocal, you have SO much more to choose from.

I can write lyrics, but they're generally very unstructured... and I can't arrange them into phrasings that work whatsoever, so I do have a lot of respect for folks that can.

Wow, an actual intelligent and educated response. You sure you belong 'round these parts?

Good post!!

Why? That makes no sense. I would argue the opposite. How many people have the range of a guitar or piano. Any nuance you can do with your voice you could do with an instrument - especially guitar.

I can respect what he does, but just don't like music with rap in it. Just not my cup of tea. So whether he is a genius or not I couldn't say, but he sure can get the ladies to dance. ;) So, maybe he is genius after all...

Hey Crimson, could repost that impressive picture of you in your court clothes??
