I recently had a deal on a pair if eminence 12" 16 ohm eminence to cross pattern with the vht p50e stock speakers... But after reading much info at TGP after Googled for the wizard it seems like there are many unhappy comments about them stating it creates cone cry.... Have never heard of before... But am wondering how the current production of the eminence wizard like ? Has anyone bought the wizards recently and tested them out ? Any good so far ?

I never even knew what 'cone cry' was until I saw it on TGP. I would take TGP discussions with a grain of salt to be honest. I have a pair of Wizards and they freaking rock.

Me too.... I went thru the same thread I guess.... But seriously if its that bad still ? I read it on TGP as the thread was dated back 2005.. ..I hope the guys from eminence have sorted out by now??

I have one from a few years ago. I really like it. I put it in an H&K Switchblade and love it.

I just recorded it yesterday and today.

Share the clip with us ? High gain ? I don't know for my case if getting a 75watts wizards will combo well with the p50e VHT speakers at 50watts?

I had a 4 x 12 with eminence governors and it sounded good, and my bud has a 4 x 12 with 2 wizards and 2 governors and it rocks hard and sounds great. never heard any cone cry. I always thought of eminence as a sub par brand for some reason, but when I actually tried them, they were much, much better than I envisioned.

I use a Wizard/Mesa-V30 pairing in a combo and in a mid-60's Showman cab...zero cone cry with the two Wiz's I have.

Thanks guys but am trying out speakers change for my first time... I own a 412 vht cab with 4 p50e... I am planning to install two wizard ... But will have a mix of speakers rated at 50watts for the p50e and 75watt for wizards... Will it sound unbalance in a way? Or will the wizards stand out more than the p50e being higher rating ?

Cone cry was only a problem using open back cabs. I have a couple in a rear-mounted Fryette/VHT cab. They are more efficient than P50Es, and have a touch more high end. I don't know if I'd use them in a front loaded cab. You can always email or call Eminence. They're very helpful.

It's nothing special, just a Maroon 5 cover I had to learn. I enjoy the song, so I figured I'd throw down a cover. It's 75/25 stereo panned with the Lead and Ultra channels. The lead has all the percussive strumming in the verses, the Ultra is just the notes. The solo is on the Lead channel as well, but dialed back in the mix like the original. The gain is about is at about 50%.

Wattage doesn't determine db level, speaker sensitivity does. 16 ohm Wizards are 103.5 dbs, and p50es are 98 dbs, so the wizards will be louder. Sensitivity isn't the whole story though as speaker voice plays big into how loud a speaker is perceived vs. other speakers. FWIW I used to have a pair of wizards in an Emperor 2x12 and really like them. I still have one of them with a swamp thang in that same cab and it's a really great speaker so I'd say go for it.

There's a link to it in Dropbox.

I just put a link to it on my Youtube as well. For some reason the video embed won't work.

What I mean by 75/25 is that one side (can't remember which I did) is 75% of the Lead channel, 25% of the Ultra. The other is vice versa.

Wow.... Very nice professional recording ! The tone sounds very decent, juicy and tight...I will give the wizard a try with the vht p50e.... I am hoping the wizard would over shadow completely over the p50e... Thanks guys :)

I'm not an eminence speaker user now but I have had my share in the past and the Wizard model was the only one I really liked... Good luck!

It should. The wizard has great mids, while the P50s seem hollow.

Thanks Kelly... Well just like to take opportunity on how you approach the speakers for a fatbottom? The back is sealed I guess only was is to open the side handle and pop out the p50e by inserting your hand via the handle cavity ?

My cab is one of the horizontal 2x12s, with a removable back. They were made for the Pittbull 45 or something.

Yah, it's kind of like the "IBM" history - "I Blame Microsoft.

Once you go Celestion, you'll never go back.

Just ask this guy - he knows.
