I'm getting ready to make the purchase and they got back to me saying they use Weber G1265s standard in their cabs now. What opinions (if any) do you all have on the Webers? I've been finding a lot of reviews saying they tame highs..which is nice, but I don't want too dark of a sound. I've yet to find a good clip of them distorted at decent volumes..all I've gotten are a few blues clips and one guy playing "metal" with a Bogner Alchemist. I'm looking for big, thick, earthy tone that you feel in your chest..and I LOVE 6x12s. I have the option for V30s which I have a love/hate relationship with or Eminence which, to this point, just a hate relationship.

Thanks..I'd really appreciate some opinions,
Jonny

Weber is the hottest thing going for the old school Greenback sound, and they also build the Scumback speakers to Scumback's specs. damn good old school 70's and 80's sound.

for chest thumping, i'd go with Eminence Swampthangs and Governors mixed.

if you're for sure an Eminence hater, maybe Celestion whatever they are 100's? mixed with something?

maybe break the bank and your back with some Electrovoice!

I used to run a Vintage 30/G12T75 mix in my 4x12s when I was playing in a hardcore band. :dunno:

I know it's not really helpful, but I'm interested in seeing what you end up getting.

I do currently run the V30s/G1275s. I also run the G1275s/Greenbacks in my other cab. Both cabs together sound great(as well as separate). I sealed the front baffle and handles in both my Marshalls, secured the middle brace, and rewired them with 14 guage wire and solder so the boxes are as tight as possible..but still not a birch box. I dig the celestions but they just aren't doing it for me right now..box maybe? I've played the eminence legends and red white and blues..the rwbs weren't bad but not all there for me. The legends suck imo. I've got a buddy with texas heats and I'm not sold on those either..but I've yet to play with them myself. If the Webers have the greenback sound, I think I'd dig em. My ideal tone is somewhere between Crowbar and Carpathian (the song "Isolation" to be exact). I don't want to emulate their tone..but that's the idea..thick, meaty, and big. I've heard Celestion G1265 and they sound good and I had assumed they were similar but I'm not sure.

doesnt weber make a EVM12L type speaker?

yes they do. Michigan i think?

i've got 2 deferent Weber JBL clones, and they're no bass monster. but don't know if the old JBL's were either?

i'm sure Weber can build something to thump, just not sure what it would be.

Hmmm....Im building a couple thiele clone cabs. The EV TL806 to be exact. Supposedly tuned to the EVM12L. Pretty $$$. Maybe the Michigan would be a cool option for me

michigan isn't even remotely similar to the EVM12L.

It's supposed to be an SRO clone, and IMO, it's not very close to that either.

FWIW, I had some Weber 65's and Ceramic Blue Dogs at the same time. They both sounded GREAT. VERY musical.

Webers are very cool.

I thought there'd be an Eminence version of the EVM. :dunno:

Delta Pro 12A.

similar, but slightly darker than the EVM12L.

I think I actually prefer the Emi DP12A

Thanks for the info on the Webers..the Emperor guys seem to think I'll like them...but they would haha; they're taking my money. I'll post pictures when I get it..ordering it this Friday I think.

If scumbacks are webers that have some special treatments Id say youll be fine with the weber speakers.

Just put the deposit on it :D ...3.5 weeks later I'll be posting some pictures with the Bogner on top

Ships from Emperor to me on Monday..I'll have pictures up soon :-D

Got it..finally. Sounds AMAZING and need to figure out how to share that...I'm no good with technology and/or recording so bare with me. It is gorgeous and I'm going to steal someones digi cam so I can take some decent pictures of it rather than my little cell phone camera. This thing is beast...big low end (obviously), very full mid range in that you can cut the low mids and still retain percussive bottom and no mud and the high mids clean up the top end so they're not fizzy like my Marshalls. All around extremely happy with this cab..it'll shake down a building with the Bogner up on top haha.

Looks awesome, love to hear it...did it come with any free gorillas? (roadies)

haha..no, no gorillas. I'm a big fella..I can handle it. Shipping weight was 150lbs..don't think that's after the pallet and cardboard. And some advice if anyone decides to go with Emperor...don't go on their time frames lol

holy fucking shit that is gorgeous! :inlove: :inlove:

what speakers did you finally get?
