While the guitar was in fantastic shape for a 2000 and still playable, the frets has already been leveled a few times on already small vintage frets since is a 56 NOS. I’d always been apprehensive of refretting maple necks because planing the board in preparation removes the finish. And since is an amber vintage, I was apprehensive to make the call, afraid it would look off and devalue the guitar too much.

But, at the end of the day, I want to love the guitar and it sounds phenomenal. So, I dropped it off to my guy on July 21st. He told me that he would plane it to 9.5” refret it with medium jumbos and color match the nitro and new bone nut. He did the work pretty quickly, but the guitar had been sitting in curing booth for 2 weeks.

Everytime I get stuff back from this guy, I’m amazed.

It looks good but the before pic looks like frets are pretty meaty, not what I would call vintage style.
