How do these 2 amps stack up? There are some great sounding blackmore clips out there.

I really liked the Blackkmore when I had one but I wound up selling it to get a Savage 120. Guess it depends on what your gonna be playing with it, but the Savage gets the nod for brutal metal tones IMO. Not that the Blackmore can't get brutal, but the Savage has more gain, compression and a much sharper tight attack.

I had a 5153 50 watt and 100 watt and I liked the blue ch on both, liked the blue on the 50 watt more than the 100w but I disliked the red ch on both. I got rid of both in favor of Engl at the time. Lately I've been moving on from the Engl in favor of other stuff just do to curiosity.

Art's got GAS!

The 2 Engls that intrigue me most are the Blackmore and Artist, same amp with the BM having 6L6 vs EL34 in the Artist..
Clips do sound nice....

I had an artist and it was cool but not a keeper really wanted it to be. The blackmore just sounds more aggressive in a good way.

I much preferred the Artist to the Blackmore. If anything, I found the Artist to be more aggressive than the Blackmore. I also though eventually traded off the Artist I used to own. My favorite Engl fwiw is the SE EL34, but it's pretty different from those 2. It's more compressed and more processed sounding than those 2 and way more than I usually care for, but has a unique bottom end that hits you unlike any other amp I've tried and has a very complete and aggressive growl on powerchords

Blackmore was awesome, modern metal with ease. Could be very bright and spikey though.

Blackmore is Marshall and evh is Soldano topology FYI.

My other guitarist has a Blackmore and I have a 5150 III 50 watt. We both lean towards the 5150 III mainly because it cuts in the mix a littke better and I tned to already use amps that stand out in a mix (VHT, Diezel, Splawn)

Overall, the tone of the Blackmore is fantastic and we use it for modern metal/hardcore. Very full without sounding tubby. Really mean voicing, good clarity. You really have to get the mids up to cut against another amp in a mix though.

Do you run the BM with the contour engaged? I have the 530 preamp that I just run into the fx return of another head, and find that the EQ gets less responsive overall with the contour engaged, but it sounds less refined, and more cutting to my ears. It sounds more polished and smooth without the contour.

This is the same for the Savage 120. Rough/smooth and contour add or remove mids big time

The EVH  Had both Engls. I couldn't get the Artist on the porch fast enough. I liked the Invader more. Engls are not for you OP.

I can understand if someone doesn't like something, but to tell someone else definitively that they won't like something...well.... There's no objectivity in gear period IMHO.

Didn't mean for it to come off that way Mike. I know him well enough after years of talking gear with him. Engls are not for him. He's Marshall mids through and through. He's bored again.  Happens to most of us

That's a different story then :aww: My bad, didn't realize you guys were buds.

I'm not a fan of the Fender EVH 5153 amps... so I'll take the Richie B... but the Savage 120 does those tones, and more.

I only like "rough" mode (lol)... smooth mode is worthless to me. Nowhere near as mean/aggressive sounding. Contour on too.
