Which one would you pick for a slayer cover band ???
(Played through Mesa 4x12. V30 x G12t75)

None of those sound like a boosted 2203 (Jeff and Kerry's bedrock tone) at all. I have played all of them and owned a FB100 and 5150. Out of the three there I would say the 5150 is closest but still pretty far off.

Everything this man said. BTW I was listening to some of your clips on netmusicians just a few minutes ago, damn you can play! Love your Blackmore clips.

Yeah, I would go tubescreamer boosted 5150 out of those choices for Slayer-ish tone. The Fireball 100 is a great amp as well, but it's personality is darker and smoother.

Which amp is close to a "2203 Boosted" other then the amp itself
Any modded amps ??

Probably an ENGL Blackmore.

Thanks, man!

Why are you looking at just those 3 amps?

There are better amps out there to pull off those tones.

for starters
Engl Blackmore
Splawn Quick Rod
Peavey 6534/Butcher

+1

Get a used JCM800 and a Tube Screamer for cheap and call it good! \:D/

well I was looking at those 3 amps because I already own a Splawn nitro and a 5150 and was looking for a fireball 100 but I might
try a 6534 instead

they're cheap used and supposedly sound awesome

I thought the Splawn nitro was modded after an old 2203 marshall board

Have you tried turning the gain down on the Splawn and hitting the front end with an OD pedal or an EQ pedal for a sharper, more metallic attack?

yeah I think I'M going to hit the splawn nitro with my maxon od-820
on OD1 , the gain is clearer and it sounds almost like a quickrod

You don't need another amp to do those covers. The nitro will be all you need. Take the resonance knob past 12 noon and lower the bass to around 9 and boost the presence, mids, and highs. Keep the gain around 8/9 and OD1. You will be able to get that British tone very easily. It helps to have British speakers of some sort too. That is very critical! Just as important as the amp.
