whats up guys. I have a question for some of you engl savage owners or amp guys. My savage quit working the other day worked fine at the ampfest and sounded loudand mean. Brought it home pluged it in played on it a few minutes powered her down ate some dinner went back to fire her up and she is dead quiet. Checked all the fuses checked all the pre amp tubes one by one with a brand new one then I noticed that even my powertubes would not fire up. I know this amp has a circuitthat incase of power tube failure it shuts it down but the light indicaters for the tubes is not on and like I said checked all the fuses and pulled the head ahell and checked the one fuse inside all tested ok. Didnt see anything fried as far as i could see. Any sugestions of what to test or look for or reset if any. Pretty handy with a mult meter and pretty safe around electric parts.
Thanks for any help or tips I would really aprieciate it.

is it an older model (pre 2010) or a newer model? I bought an older one used a few years ago and had a somewhat similar problem right when I got it. took it to a pro who converted the power from dc to ac, retubed, and cleaned it. never had a problem with it ever since. apparently, the older ones are notorious for power/buzz/noise/hum/tube issues.

Dont know for sure what year it was built but I belive it is before 2010. This is the serial number 060923.

Problem fixed my awesome amp tech found the problem like in 5-10 min. Engl uses hard wire from the transformer filiment solder joints. There was a cold solder joint and he cleaned up and resoldered and it is as good as new and a hell of a lot quieter too. Maybe that had something to do with hiss... I always used a Decimater in the loop and it was dead quiet but now its not so bad and really dont need it in the loop anymore.

I thought I would let you all know if some of you savage owners experiance a similar issue that might be a good starting point for ya...

If anybody needs a good amp tech in the Dallas area hit me up and I will point you in his direction. I have been using him for years and he is one of the most honest amp guys around. He has been able to diagnose and fix any problem I have ever had and doesnt rape you with a outrages bill at the end. You pay for what you get with him...

good to hear!

i use an ns2 in the loop and a decimator in front. that shuts it up pretty well

Cool, thanks for finding the solution and posting it.
One of our guitarists uses a savage so this will help in the future if it develops this issue.
