Right now I have the option to score an Engl Savage, Savage SE, and an Invader 100. Pros and cons? Which one would you guys prefer? Does anyone know what the Savage SE went for new when they were being sold? Thanks in advance...

Savage runs two 6550's, Savage SE runs a quartet of 6L6's and they are much harder to find.

Mike/Juggernaut has owned both i believe, send him a few PM's on the other questions

Thanks man. Appreciate your help/consideration. You rock

I have owned both as well, I prefer the regular Savage 120

Other than the power tube section, what is different between the 2 amps?

i own the savage 120 and have been quite pleased with it. wide range of tones and plenty of bells and whistles to shape everything. never owned an invader, but i have played one a few times. i will say that for the price difference, there's really no sounds you can get out of the invader that you can't also get out of the savage. invader has a few features that the savage doesn't (such as on-board noise gate), but again, not enough to justify the jump in price.

don't have any experience with the savage se, but the few people i have spoken to who have tired both prefer the 120.

grab the savage 120, pump it through some v30's, and rejoice.

Thanks man! I think Im gonna snag the Invader. Do you know if the midi works like it does on the Diezel amps? Where you can store/assign your personal settings on the amp?

i don't, actually. i'm a pretty basic player, so all i ever need is an amp, a cab, and a noise gate lol i also have the amp's z10 footswitch, which is more or less essential to operate the thing smoothly. the biggest pain in the ass about this amp is that the footswitch connectes with a 25-pin midi cable - almost like an old school printer cable. the thing is beyond cumbersome.

otherwise, great amp and probably my favorite one out of the few that i own. not ENTIRELY versatile, but again, you can tone shape the hell out of 4 different channels. and the thing is POWERFUL loud, so +1 if you're using it for high-gain metal.

Fair enough. Im trading my Pittbull Ultralead for it and just wanted some advice to make sure I was doing the right thing. I play death/djent stuff and the Ultralead is awesome, but I cant bond with the FX loop and would rather have something with the midi options. Thanks for the advice bro.

Any input on the Invader?

I don't like the Invader. One of the few Engls I'm not a fan of. More rock than metal... and a little too smooth and round sounding with too much honk in the mids. I like aggression and bite in my sound.

So....the Savage SE would be better for the djent/deathy stuff? I really like the fact that the SE has an onboard reverb!

If you like/need the extra features, I'd go for the regular E670 Special Edition... not the Savage SE. I've not played the Savage SE, but everyone I've talked to that has and has played the Savage 120, prefers the regular Savage 120 (like Brad mentioned above). You could always throw a pedal in the loop.

:dunno:

True. Very well put. I guess I could just test drive 'em and see whats up. Either way, thanks bro

hey, brother, i had juggy's old savage se. i would advise against the savage se if you dont wanna run two cabs daisy-chained.

it has a cab a/b switch. you can switch between 2 cabs, but cant run them at the same time. so if you wanna run two cabs, you have to daisy-chain them into one speaker output. believe me, i tried everything, including everything in the manual that came with it. no joy.

Yeah, that sucks. I hardly ever use 2 cabs but it still sucks. I might just get the Invader then. Have u had any experience with the Invader? Which would u prefer? Invader or Savage SE? I really need some help with this decision. I hate to get rid of the UL and regret it until I sell my soul to get another one. You know what I mean?

Hi there looking for some helpful tips and advice on how to operate the engl footswitch z10 other than using the obvious 6 channel switching options it says it's also a midi controller but cannot figure out how to get into those functions would appreciate some help :)

I have owned SE, Invader, Savage120, Powerball, Fireball 60, Fireball100, Blackmore

My favorites have been #1 Fireball 100, #2 Savage 120, #3 SE

The Fireball 100 is the least expensive and sounds best to me , also sounds great live ! The Fireball 60 is not even close dont bother with that model IMO....The Savage is pretty awesome also but its a very upper midrange heavy amp, it does not have a big low end or low mid so it depends on your guitar and cab.
