Has anyone here played the '84 Explorer reissue? I've always wanted a white 1984 Gibson or an ESP MX, but they are far too expensive, and rare to boot. I will most likely end up skipping the Epi and buying a Chapman Ghost Fret, as it is almost a perfect guitar for me, but I am still curious as to the quality of the Epi.

Anyone got an opinions? They seem to look a bit...off...in pictures for some reason. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe I'm just making it up, who knows. Perhaps my taste has changed, I want a "classier" explorer with binding, but my nostalgic brain doesn't want to let go

The third option is getting the Epiphone Brendon Small Thunderhorse. I love the look of that guitar, but I'm not sure if I want a 2nd silverburst guitar. If anyone here has played one of these, or better yet both of the Epi models to compare, please share your thoughts.

Don't do it! I own one, bought for the same reason as you. I just wanted "that" explorer. Probably my inner Hetfield coming out... But it's literally the worst sounding guitar I have ever owned. Sounds horrible and dead. Nothing makes this thing sound good. Not even the EMGs that it comes with. Get something else!

Yeah, I saw that coming. I'll end up buying a Ghost Fret in the end...better looking, higher quality guitar all around. More expensive though.

I do wonder how the 84 EX compares to the Epi Thunderhorse though.
