Man you literally can find EVERYTHING you need to learn online at this stage. Every single problem you have, is an easily found tutorial on how to do all of this. Secondly, you are never going to be happy with your productions monitoring with this. You brought a lawnmower to the Daytona 500 and are asking why your lawnmower isn’t as fast… that’s about the best analogy I can give. Invest in a good set of headphones for now until you can actually put together something you can monitor with.
Could you link me to what you think is the best, or one of the better, videos on drum programming?

Mixing I'm so so worried about at this point, because as long as I can get the right vibe during the recording/writing process and be able to recreate the vibe of a band, I can just send my tracks off the be mixed by a pro, or at least someone better than me. I'm not overly picky that it has to be "crazy polished". Just acceptable sounding.

I'm working on a song right now. Currently tracking it. I'm sharing what I've got finished right now. This is "mixed" as good as I can do. It's not mastered (whatever that really means). You will notice it sounds like plenty of other songs you've heard before. That's because since I'm new to songwriting, I'm basically just taking popular songs that I write and "re-writing them". Basically just reverse engineering them and make an alternate version of them. See if you can guess which song(s) I'm ripping off here.

Also, your honest opinions of it.

Is it legit if I double track all rhythm guitars, hard pan L/R, but lower one of them in the mix so that it only barely comes through? I just kind of want the sound of one guitar in my songs, but still keeping the "wide" sound of hard panned dual tracks. Do other people do that?

That doesn't sound bad, man.

Thanks. But there's just something not exactly right about it. Can't put my finger on it. Its in the drums or something. I never can figure these things out. I wish someone who is badass at programming drums could take the stems and put a killer groove to it, and much better changes and fills.

sounds fuckin great on my computer speakers bro. I think your overthinking this homie. And I have a similar recording set up but I'm using stl. my shit sounds like pure hammered shit. But I don't know what I'm doing because I'm to fucking hard headed to read the manual. Also I'm set up near my breaker box and I'm getting mucho interference. And while recording everything just stops for a few milliseconds and then continues. Talk about fucking your playing up....and also and most importantly-I FUCKING SUCK AND DO NOT ASK ME FOR CLIPS!!!...lol...

we had an old forumite here named Josh Parsley(insurrection)..dude made the most killer clips ever. It was legendary because he was using like early 80's radioshack shit to do it with. Tandy microphone and a realistic deck....it was crazy.

He used a 2204 and a hotmod. Josh was cool as fuck. We used to shoot the shit all the time, he lived next to a graveyard. I wonder what he's up to these days...dude was a killer guitarist.

I felt so bad one night a lonnnnngggg time ago, his band was in town and needed a place to crash, but I was living at my parents and I couldn't ask them to house 5 WV metalheads in their basement.

I mean I don’t see what sounds bad about that for demoing songs etc? What else are you looking for? I bet if you threw an ssl style comp on the master buss to pull it all together and give it a lot more excitement, youd probably be on your way to what you are looking for.

he's from here in WV...down in Boone County..the asshole of WV. I had an appointment a few weeks ago down in Charleston. Was talking to the nurse and she said she was from Boone county. I said I had a buddy from there and gave her Josh's name. I think she gave me a funny look and said "yeah he's still around"...got a funny vibe for sure.

yup-it would have been like a gwar concert when they left. but it would have been fun though....

Getting closer with the drums

EDIT: I might've fucked it up with the changes I made to the guitar and bass. Might need to set them back the way they were before.

I find the Softube Amp Room JCM800 plugin is very finkle. It sounds incredible to play just as a practice amp in your room. But recording with it, it just seems very harsh. You have to really try to tame it. Not sure anyone has tried to use it or has any tips for recording with it??
