just wondering how many people have an eq on their pedalboard, and how they use it/set it up?

is it just through the effects loop of an amp with delays/modulation to beef up or change the tone a bit, or are you using it in your pedalchain to boost the signal/change some frequencies/sweeten up an OD pedal etc..

i've unearthed a danelectro fish&chips 7band eq, popped it in the loop of my blackstar ht-5 along with some other pedals (a dirt cheap behringer reverb and an akai headrush), surprised at the tone goodness a slight mid boost eq is doing in the effects loop of the amp

i'm a take it along to my main rig and see how it communicates with the ht dual =0

Most will say loop first. More audible effect that way.

I say pre first. Bend the preamps voicing and distortion at will. Very versatile when used correctly.

Then loop also. The best sounds ive ever had utilized both pre and post distortion eq.

I use it in the loop to add some mids & high end...it also acts as a bit of a clean boost

I use it in the loop to fine tune my amps to how I like them best, It work the best that way for me

My MarkIV has a built-in equaliser, so I use that to modify my heavy rhythm tone. The mids are boosted all through the amp in various ways, so the EQ sculpts it a bit for an aggressive, crunchy sound. It sounds angry scooped but cuts through.

But I do also have a Fish & Chips graphic EQ pedal. I've been using it in various ways- as a front-end boost to dirty up a clean channel but not too high gain, a level attenuator, when I want a deliberately murky sound, a hollow sound, a peaked mid sound, a pseudo-wah sorta sound as well. I need to keep experimenting with it though.

Currently I don't don't use an eq. It fell off my board for the purposes of adding other effects.

I used to use it first in the chain. I don't use the effects loop at all. It was basically a clean booster with very precise eqing. I dropped it off because I like the linear booster better, setting the bass and treble on my linear booster was plenty enough.

I never found the heavily eqed boost to be that helpful. I tried a mid-boost and a mid-scoop. The mid boost was okay. Then I just futzed with all the sliders to try to get a nice tone, but 'nice tone boost' didn't really work on my board.

But that's just me. It was a cheap eq, and I didn't really experiment with all the posibilities. It just had that 'subtle' but not 'indispensible' quality that I am currently taking off of my board. I may try an MXR 6-band mini-eq sometime. That way I have a pretty good eq (better than Behringer anyway) which won't take up much board space. Who knows? I may even go back to using the effects loop. It complicates things thuroughly though.

I use the Fish and Chips in front of my 2204. Don't have a loop. Works great for me.

How do you set it?

mine is built into my amp. it's a carvin x 60. i'm putting together a pedalboard rig using it as a platform. the graphic is switchable between rhythm and lead channels. i'm using it to sculpt my lead tones.

No loop...very end of my chain...I use it to bump up the mids and boost the level slightly for a nice solo boost.
