EQ pedals and high gain amps

Alot of times I'll use a board full of gain pedals into the front of a clean amp. I put an EQ after the last gain pedal to compensate for the lack of bass in the pedals.

Works really well.

I'd do it in the loop. If my amp had one....

I used to use an eq pedal or a rack eq in the effects loops of my Engls and recto. I would try cut and boost certain frequncies to get that classic 90's death metal tone that you hear on the old roadrunner records band albums like Sepultura's Arise or Obituary's Cause of Death. It's fun every now and then to mess around with an eq in the loop.

Some of the high gain amp I've tried have "that jar of bees" distortion thing going on, because they let too much bass through too early in the signal chain; using the EQ in front to roll off some of the bass and boost the mids a little, seemed to help me get a better sound from my 6505+. I had it moddeed by Voodoo and never really needed it after that. I think most of these mods essentialy mimick the way that better amps are already set up. Anyways, I digress, with that particular amp, it was kind of a band-aid on the problem, but the frown curve EQ setting in front of the amp did help.

I use one in the loop for a volume boost with a flat eq.
