Played a new ESP Eclipse today at a store. I was really surprised how good it played, how great the neck fealt, and for $1,250 out the door....well I allmost bought it. But I hate the flag inlays. So I said I'd think about it.

Anyway, what do you guys think of them? This was a black standard series with EMG's.

That's funny I feel the same way about the flags. I talked with ESP about a decade ago about them. I said if they got rid of them they would sell more, or at least give us an option for dots with binding. They told me on the phone everyone loves them, and that was the first they heard of anyone not liking them. I dig ESP's they got a great feel to them.

I had one. I found it to be a little on the bright side for a mahogany guitar. I preferred the Horizon alot more. I would like to try one of the non-US market Full Thickness Eclipses - those are supposed to be more like a LP in tone.

That metal ash tray is the stupidest thing I have ever seen on a guitar and I will not buy another ESP that has that.

Someone needs to let ESP know that they dont need to route out a huge chunck of wood and put in a piece of metal. They make control cavities with built in removable battery covers now.

I swear that metal causes unwanted humming and feedback on the one ESP I had with EMGs.

I let my friend borrow my les paul for recording and he lent me his eclipse so i could still have a guitar to mess on i got to say i like the neck alot! 12" radius 1.650 nut and a very small neck, It fit perfect in my hands so much that when i custom make a suhr im going with similar specs, Love the frets as well! Anywas feels great but i hate the sound of it its very very bright and thin for mahogany, Could be because this one has Emg's but then unplugged its very thin, like anyother guitar if it sounds good to you it sounds good

I absolutely hated the one I owned. I had tuning issues non-stop and various other problems. That being said, I LOVE MY CHARVEL.

i owned a couple standard series ec and they were ok guitars, i wouldnt pay 1250 for a new one because im cheap and i would rather buy a used on for 1k. even if you do buy it new they sound pretty nice and the quality is pretty decent. i have a couple eclipse right now and one is a ec custom and the other is a jh3 and its full thickness. i like both alot but the jh3 gets played more.

dont expect les paul tones out of it even though its kinda similar, i think it sounds more like a sg than lester. i wished the standard series ec werent so light and the body wasnt thin, since you already played one you know what to expect already.

I have a flat Black Eclipse II and it kills. I did not feel any difference from there Eclipse to the Eclipse II, so I went with the II to save money and I got it for $700 with a case on Ebay. Great guitars for the money IMHO. I have zero tuning issues with mine and anyone who has played has been pleasantly surprised. The brightness people are noticing more then likely comes from the shallow body and EMG's. Just taking out the EMG's will darken the tone up but I left them in because I dial my amps in dark anyway!

Hope this helps!

Is this for you band JB?

IMO do what Ralph did and no worries when your out gigging, you can have the nice stuff at home for yourself.

The one I just sold was pretty nice. Sounded and play well. Didn't feel plastic like a lot of other ESP stuff does. I had one of the older Gibson style ones though. They look much better than the new style US models IMO. They're thin as hell, very light, and sound nothing like a real Gibson LP though. And $1250 seems a bit high. I bought and sold mine for $1000.

At that price Id definitely hold off but at $700 for what I got, Can't beat it with a stick and it holds tune better then my LP.

For that price I'd rather just get an Edwards. Those flag inlays look retarded IMHO.
I tried the Edwards and Liked the feel of this better. Im also the type of person who doesn't give a shit about the inlays lol

I have one word for you - Horizon. I can count on my hands the times I played my LPs after I got my Horizons. It was really weird changing from LPs to Horizons (different scale length, neck, lighter weight, different shape & tone, new amp settings), but it was worth it!! They have a sound of their own, pretty dark & mean. They sound warmer & more resonant than any les paul can ever get.
