What would you guys consider absolutely, cannot do without, bare bones, guitar pedals for a gigging guitarist? Ive typically been a 1 pedal kind of guy, and that 1 pedal has always been a noise gate. Above that, what you would consider necessary? OD? Reverb? Delay? Tuner?

I NEED an od....for boost(Brootz) and overdrive(Rock)

I like delay, fuzz, and reverb...but they aren't essential.

...and fuck tuners. :D

I could do a gig with just a tuner, with the right amp and guitar of course, don't even really NEED that but the audience really doesn't wanna hear you tune.

Here are the pedals I need:

Delay
Tuner
Overdrive
Wah

Nice to have:
Phase 90
EQ (I often use this as a solo boost)
Chorus
Univibe
Fuzz
More dirt boxes.
Reverb if amp doesn't have it

It really depends on the amp, but with the right amp, all I need is a tuner.
If I'm using a looser amp like a Recto, I'll need a boost to tighten things up, but that's it.

Well, lets say Im gigging with a JSX head. Ive got 3 channels, set to clean, rock, and metal distortions, and I dont like the sound of a boost over my distortion. I did consider a tubescreamer of some kind for rock kind of sounds, but I think the amp is capable of doing this on its own. Ive been thinking about delay and reverb for the clean passages with modulation effects, but I dont know how necessary they would be. I have also been considering a tuner, but I wanted to look into the new planet waves tuner that you clip to your headstock, though Im not sure how well that thing works. If I have to get more than just my noise gate, I want as little as possible. If I dont need anything extra, then I would just as soon not have a pedal board...

I always like to have two overdrives, wah, delay and a tuner.

I may hit a chorus once in a while.

1. I can tune the thing by ear

2. I can get dirt from the amp

3. noise can be tolerated

4. I can get reverb from most amps, or the room.

However, unless I'm at the grand canyon, I MUST HAVE A DELAY.

Then don't.

Whether or not you need stuff like delay and chorus is totally up to preference.
Some guys can't live without it, I've never played a show with it.

I'm gonna sell off the ones I never use...but these are keepers for me.

Strobostomp 2 tuner pedal
Budda Budwah pedal
S.I.B. Varidrive tube pedal
Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket tube pedal
Wampler Pinnacle 2 pedal
ClinchFX EP-Pre pedal
HardWire CR-7 Stereo Chorus Pedal
MXR EVH Phase 90 pedal
MXR Carbon Copy delay pedal
MXR Dynacomp pedal
MXR 10 band eq pedal

I could work with just an OD and delay. But my amp doesn't do dirty well by itself.

Right now, I have to have a tuner, some sort of overdrive pedal, delay, and an OCD in addition to the first od.

I use a minimal set up, just 4 pedals that I consider essential and will never sell:

EVH Wah
Xotic AC Booster
EVH Phase 90
TC G system ;)

Alright, sweet. No pedals for me then!!

Playing metal on a JSX I wouldn't go anywhere without a gate.

Decimator is the only pedal I use that I might consider essential for my gigs....

But besides that I always have my tuner, wah, and boost on my pedalboard. Usually delay too.

I run a 5150 II so.... my Boss NS-2 is the only pedal I would NOT gig without. I had to once when somone fucked with my pedalboard, don't know what went wrong with it,. it was HELL for me having to switch channel all the time.

I don't think a tuner pedal is essential because my guitars genreally don't go out of tune easily, I wouldn't like to gig with one that did.
